'Cambrian Street'

Evening Guys, I hope that all are well.......?

Apologies for the recent 'radio silence'.....no real reason for this, just busy 'doing things'....you know how it is...?

Anyway, with a day away from the normal Thursday SVR routine, (the 'Gasman coming')  during the morning, this allowed a quick trip down to Kidderminster and a visit to 'Footplate Models' and on the return home, calling into Penn Models in Kingswinford for bits and pieces....

So all being well, have now the necessary 'tackle' to commence the next stage of the small street scene abutting the Lllangeitho Road bridge phase of Cambrian Street,,,,,update may not be this evening or the coming weekend, but (who knows) will post when I've begun the work.....

Have a great weekend folks......

Regards always....

Bob

I'm flat out building big planters in the garden Bob so I know exactly what you mean mate. I have done zero work on the layout.

Hi...

With all the time / effort connected to SVR and gardens at Arley coupled with here at the nursery, my back garden at home to my shame (being in horticulture business for 35 years) has through lack of time to me become a bit of a wilderness, so it has got to be tackled..especially as I have set the 7 year retirement clock ticking down to sell up and move.....I have a goal at least to get everything straight for then....but have got to be disciplined with myself (some chance there then)...!

Regards always

Evening Guys......

Hope all's well...?

Hope this image provides a flavour of what I hope to achieve...?

Using sets as paving and a stone wall (both just placed into position) still contemplating using spear top fencing as an alternative feature instead of a wall....?

(Has this site been 'down' lately  or is it just me...?)

Hi....

One last post prior to 'Mr. Sandman' calling....and hopefully sprinkles his magic in these old, tired eyes...

This is the alternative.....using combined wall and 'spear top' and is I have to say my preferred option, comments....?

Looking good Bob. You could also go with 2 or 3 course high brick wall with the railings fitted into the top You would see more of the paving sets as Calvin mentioned and more in keeping with the buildings and bridge.

Hi,

a low wall with the spear top was really common, especially before the WW2, when a lot of the spear tops were cut off flush with the top of the wall for the 'war effort'.  You can still see walls like this in various places, although it did sometimes survive intact.  Were I live both can be seen within a 2 minute walk.

Hi....

With the kind comments (above) taken onboard.....could go with this.....a small wall (brick paper effect ) and spear top fencing...?

Weathered sets, weeds and grass in both this and ballast...?

Hi......

Hope everyone's Easter has been good....and all are well...?

Ater a busy half term / Easter weekend at the nursery have had an hour or so on Cambrian Street, progressing (hopefully) albeit slowly, with the build of the low wall to carry the spear top and placing the scenic break wall which'll extend eventually to the station itself...

Hi....

Hope all's bonzer....!.....(Sorry Australian Childhood creeping back )

Akin to pushing a heavy boulder up a steep slope, 'we' make progress hopefully.....

have this evening set out here  where the end cottage and its dividing wall will sit......insset the broken (serendipitous) piece of spear top to fill the gap and then the indication of the stone wall that will run through the where the signal box will stand and the scenic break wall to edge the layout......

104_2335.JPG.442094369f5f2b96442c15a134e5548b.JPG 104_2334.JPG.3edcc87c00ccab544f2252d03973d9d2.JPG 104_2331.JPG.df11806562cbe3fb7c47244e1c460856.JPG 104_2330.JPG.a227a59bfaea9d4dca1e5c648ae8fe93.JPG 104_2329.JPG.f484c5826890c7019a6e3830c532283d.JPG  104_2328.JPG.dd8829d0f5e5527ece2f675f44a4c05f.JPG 104_2327.JPG.5018a0478a5ebf5155c5240645d8651d.JPG

Will next commence to tie all this together by setting down the granite set paving, complete the wall. weathering and painting / weeding the surface, consider a couple of street lamps, people maybe a horse at a trough, whilst the rider downs a pint....ballast the track and bring this into the goods yard area...?

Any good..? Comments appreciated as always guys....

Regards always...

Bob

You may or may not be pleased to know that the word "bonza" (the preferred spelling according to some) has fallen out of fashion with most people.  It still shows up in business names from time to time.

Evening all......

'Breezy a' it' !

The previous images have shown a low stone wall between the cottages and the station / street scene itself...this I forgot to mention that this was only for effect and was not to be the intended permanent feature......

I have begun the process of fashioning  a more 'robust' and station-like feature....

........a 12' brick wall......wrapping the wall into the smaller cottage wall and will weather and tone this to match the bridge colour when applied...hoping this a more suitable urban feature ?
