Strange, All this wet weather reminded me of this.... and my younger days!

On to other matters......

Evening.....

Have been working on Cambrian Street this wet evening  (too wet to garden) and in addition to  a little further ballasting have returned to the 'first cultivated area.... the coal yard......

installing a piece of spear top fencing and placing the back screen balsa wood panels to carry the scenic break....

Thanks for the kind words Gary and for the postings of support, which  I see everytime...much appreciated.....

I think sometimes I must drive folks crazy with frustration as I 'bounce around'.... I could not have developed the layout without the support of you guys on here!

Hi Guys....

Just a quick update, as there's been a slowing in the pace of work on Cambrian Street, as  'summer' gardening work has to take priority, however in between the continued spells of ballasting short lengths of track within the station throat, have begun to build the 12' wall surrounding part of the coal yard....sobering thought that at 4.54pm on Friday it's the summer solstice....!

Evening my good friends......

Hope all are in 'fine fettle'....?

Have undertaken a little further ballasting of the coal yard track and points this evening as well as placing a skim of artex over what will be the 'sky' above the wall on the back scene, to take off the bare balsa wood which would probably soak up any paint without it...?

Added another section of 12' wall and made up the longer section of backdrop wall running along the 'headshunt'...intended here to have a combination of wall and building ends....?

Also have place for now for 'atmospheric' purposes two 'friends' which will be hitched up to drays or vae his head in a trough of water...?

Will update further when able, however I am at that stage where I am running low on materials so a visit will soo be required to either Penn Models in Kingswinford or Kidderminster's Footplate Models if I am to progress, it'll be finding time to fit in a visit to either that'll be the determining factor!

Haven't forgotten either that I need to get on with 'weathering' and 'mucking ' the rather grey looking fresh ballast...!

Regards always...

Looks very good Bob. Painting horses can be a bit of a pain mate. I used to do it for Britains from home and it's hard to get it right. Best thing to do is google it Bob, there are quite a few how to videos out there in you tube land.

Regards Lez.

Evening All.....

This evening's proceedings consisted of further small section of ballasting  completed and tube and wired (as before, yet to be connected to either a lever  frame or control rod)  another double slip, all appears well and working at this stage....

Cheers guys - enjoy the solstice tomorrow afternoon at 4.54pm

Let me know if you need any lever frames Bob. I have quite a few options and I'm switching to point motors with a mimic panel so they are either surplus or going to become surplus.

As I am entering a potentially new phase in the not too distant future, building in perhaps even temporary signals I have posted here Harlequin and Stationmasters signalling plan for Cambrian Street......

Evening Guys....Hope all are well, better now that it has 'cooled off'...!

Have, continued with the ballasting slowly.....

104_3306.JPG.57a2770ba6cb86d4d9ce67880b3e3e6a.JPG

also, here are the ideas of introducing the first signals, I have moved signal '31' to the station side of the bridge as I believe that the sighting would not be sufficient coming under the bridge...., the ground dolly would however be nearer the point as the line speed would be lower....?

In the meantime, just playing here with imaging representation, any ideas

So the signal with 2 arms is the one with the theater box Bob. I haven't had any time to start building signals mate. I've been at it non stop in the garden although I'm pretty much done now. I still need to finish sorting out both the railway room and the workshop before I can start modeling. I might get a crack at it over the next week or so. I just have a bit of garden furniture to oil that wifey is nagging me about then I can get on with things. I'm pretty much recovered from pancreatitis now and have started back at work so I had better get cracking on things. Trouble is much of what I need to do in the railway room involves drilling holes in the hardest wall you ever did see. The flint content of the concrete is just about off the scale and wifey don't like me using power tools when she isn't around and the drill I need to use for it is a 1700 watt monster that chews up bits like there is no tomorrow. Anyway I'm closer to modeling than I've been for years as the railway room was used for storage and now there is nothing in it that isn't supposed to be there.

My dear Lez....

Thank you...I do so appreciate your kindness and please I'm not anticipating you'd be building my signalling requirements at all, I am happy to have a go at representing (especially the theater boxes / ground signals) these as best as possible, even if it is in an 'abridged form' as best as possible made from adapting 'off the shelf' items......

You sound as though you're 'flat out like a lizard drinking' mate.... (as they say in Oz)..your railway room is an exciting project and will be brilliant when completed....

Please too that you've got over the worst of the pancreatitis, but don't over do it, otherwise it won't only be 'wifey' that'll be nagging you to slow down!

Regards always,

Bob

Hi Guys

Have had a thought (dangerous I know ), would it be possible and 'typical' to have that 'up reception' signal, attached on to a bracket on the bridge..?

Evening Guys, Hope all are well...?

A quick update and a musing for you to comment on as always this evening....

Have spent an hour beginning to blend in darker material (my Arley ash / sand) into the ballasting around the points, prior to tying in everything with the colour washes......

104_3339.JPG.510a2ebb64d9f3496611d0bc57b8e3bb.JPG

The musing is how to approach the 'sensitive' bits of points when it concerns ballasting, particularly the area around the 'switch' blades themselves and protecting the contacts......

I am now the stage where I have ballasted and blending in a sand an ash mix to give a weathered and mucky effect through the switch, but have for now left the aforementioned 'sensitive areas' until I am confident of the best way to progress....

104_3322.JPG.533ce2df273cb64a71ee0d73e66267df.JPG  104_3337.JPG.6694cb8420b5c57671bc131a8ee9a097.JPG

I have a few options 'rattling' in the vast empty space that resides between my ears and would like your comments on each as to which would be the best or if you can suggest an alternative to infilling between the sleepers close to the sensitive areas?

The easiest method would be to just paint the cork to darken  and camouflage it

or to fill the area with fine ballast and use an eye-dropper to fix this with a weak pva / water mix,

or fill the area with the dark sand / ash I've created and then to fix this, again with the pva / water mixture.

Regards always

Bob
