It does look good, but it would be hard to do well on a model. But I definitely thing a part-glazed roof would be worth it.

I think it would be a shame to hide the detail in the beams and cross beams under a solid canopy. If there is any way you could glaze the roof I think you’d enjoy seeing the details below. Are you planning to have alternating colours on the valance like in your photo of Bewdley? I have to agree with this Bob. It would look very good with part of the overall roof glazed. A year ago I might have thought twice about it but now days you're certainly capable to building it part glazed. Congrats on the 100th page mate. Regards Lez. RMweb Premium Gedward Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1, 2021 Congrats Bob, 100 pages is a milestone indeed. A time to look back and remember how it all began. What plans you had then and how they've materialised over that time. Keep up the great work. I'm currently on page 2 and wondering what my layout will look like if it ever gets that far.
BobM
Hi..... A. - If I plan this thoroughly in my head beforehand to get the sequence of building correct....? B. - If I take it slowly......? C. - Don't panic if this go 'wobbly'......? I think I would like and should be able to create something similar to here at Birmingham's original Moor Street, this canopy which was half glazed half solid roof..... It is probably not too late either to replace the circular kit supplied columns that have been cemented into place, with the girder type here, if I can source suitable materials, but that may be a step beyond my capabilities at the moment? BobM
If ever i went mad.....and ripped up Cambrian Street.....or perhaps a better idea, turned the other spare room into a N gauge representation of this beauty of a plan..... The plan is to make a cardboard template first for any panels whether they be iron or glass to see how they both measure up and fit together? RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 1, 2021 A cardboard template is always a good idea Bob. Regards lez.
BobM
Hi.... There is this option, rather than half and half.....a central glazed portion only....? Regards always Bob Edited February 1, 2021 by BobM
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted February 1, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 1, 2021 I quite like the glazing as it shows the structure beneath Chris 2
BobM
Evening guys......Hope all are well? An update to say that a further three hours steady painting has been undertaken, to complete the dark stone metalwork of the upper canopy...... Regards always Bob 3
380John
That looks fabulous Bob. I definitely agree with showing the structure through the glazing. A little more work but definitely worthwhile in the long run in my opinion. If you're thinking to have working lamps on the platform then this will only accentuate this I think. These are my thoughts on the way forwards, please shout if you think I am going the wrong way about this please..... First I would attached the valancing,....replacing the kit supplied plastic pieces with the purchased LCut GWR valance.... I am minded to attach a strip of platicard (to connect with the ends of the metalwork as it would with the supplied pieces) the mdf piece being superglued to this for rigidity...or is this being stupid? Intend then to cut 4 x cardboard templates to represent two panels of corrugated metal and the glazed upper sections to see how they fit together before I cut and build, the top covered in three pieces of the kit supplied ^ Does all this make sense...? RMweb Gold Adrian Stevenson Posted February 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2021 Hi Bob, that sounds feasible to me. Cheers, Ade.
RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted February 4, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 4, 2021 Sounds like a plan Bob. Regards Lez.
BobM
Evening all..... Hope everyone is okay...? Have had a tricky time placing the valancing on both sides of the canopy, mainly I think as there is very limited contact surface (just the tip of the canopy beams) between the two, does seem to be gaining some rigidity as it sets but will see how it finally sets? BobM
Hi..... Have added the ridge bar....... Looks quite smart, must have done something wrong! Thinking of forming up the corrugated lower roof next to see how this looks......if okay and slots into position, will add the glazing bars prior to the 'glass' being inserted...? BobM
Hi.... Just placed where it is intended to sit.... Regards always.... Bob 4
380John
That's looking excellent well done. If you feel like strength maybe an issue, could you perhaps glue some plasticard out of eye sight on the inboard side of the valancing? Thus adding a "spine" to the separate valancing pieces and connecting them all as one? Just an idea, John
RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted February 7, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2021 Very well done Bob. Regards Lez.
BobM
Afternoon all, Hope all are well on this chilly Sunday....? The part corrugated roof has been attached, the slight gaps filled and will spend the evening, tidying / removing the the excess filler, will attach the glazing bar and perspex (glass) when confident and have worked out the best way forward..... Take care and stay safe..... Regards always Bob 3
BobM
Hi...... The excess filler has been removed, so will leave this as it is for now and assess the 'glazing' procedure.... ...must remember too that the overall height will require reducing. Stay safe, regards always, Bob 4
BobM
Evening Guys... Hope everyone's warm enough! In your opinion does this work.....? To bring a little character and theme to the platform canopy ends I have cut up spent girder supports to be glued both gables...painted in dark stone. Regards always Bob
