Hi Guys....

A day away from the SVR (due a morning dentist appointment and to have my 'ears lowered', as it's cheaper than a haircut :D) allowed a visit to the local model shop (Penn Models in Kingswinford, although non railway it's a brilliant place and such helpful staff) and obtained a selection of enamels for the blue brick experiment.

Regards always.....

Nice Bob. Looking forward to seeing the results mate. Try it out on a bit of spare brickwork first though till you get the effect you're after. I always write down what I'm doing for paint effects just so I can replicate it again anytime I need too.

Regards Lez.

Evening Lez and all.......

Thanks for the kind comments, as always much appreciated....

Even so , I was, less than happy with the results that I'd produced concerning the blue brick wall on my first attempt and couldn't have lived with it...so just to keep everyone up to speed, have decided to redo the said piece of wall, even though the test piece seemed okay....?

Therefore, using a fibreglass pen have rubbed off the 'offending' patchy paint as best as possible and have reapplied a grey mortar colour, allowed to dry and then redid the brickwork again...?

Will keep you advised as weathering advances, a little happier with this lighter colouring so far...?

I think it looks great Bob. You have managed to get a great tonal variation. I'd be very happy with it if it was mine!

Cheers John.....

Thank you for your very kind and support comments.

I do personally feel I am struggling to obtain the desired effect at the moment, but will keep at it and to that end have on order with Phoenix Precision some Engineering Blue Brick paint....

Will await the arrival of this before undertaking anything further....

Have a great weekend,

Regards always...

Evening guys....

Sorry that there's been 'only static' from myself lately, this a combination of, but mostly being 'floored' by a heavy cold and awaiting the arrival of a couple of tins of Engineering Blue Brick from Phoenix Precision Paints...which arrived today.....so when my head has stopped thumping and I've ceased coughing over everything. work will commence.....

Regards always

Hello Guys....

It is very difficult to obtain the correct lighting conditions with normal room illumination so don't know whether this'll be any guidance as to how it really looks now that I've applied a dry brush cover of 'blue brick' will see how it dries and then sum up the weathering, green tinges and white seepage streaks...?

Any ideas..or comments appreciated.....

Evening my friends....all well I hope...?

An update on this evenings hour or so.....

Have applied a was of diluted black to the lower sections of part of the two blue brick walls, hopefully to provide a little bit of weathering and accumulated grime that would usually adhere itself to a wall in such a mucky environment, also hinted at seepage of salts out of the mortar.....

also attempted to place my first 'vegetation and grass' effects to the base of the wall.....comments always greatly appreciated as this is my first attempt in over 45 years!

Afternoon!

Yes, have 'bunked off' (not really) with a half day holiday from the nursery to pay a visit to a local 'one off' autumn model rail exhibition in the community centre Wombourne village, and a very pleasant and seemingly well attended event it was too....a number of excellent layouts on display and some trade stands too where stocks of required materials were good.....

Last evening did do another small section of ballasting within the coal yard........ the first stop in the show (other than the coffee and sandwich area) was to acquire three coal wagons........

104_5170.JPG.9f6737953fb0d1863c6462d81ed2927f.JPG 104_5165.JPG.ed64928bb88528365d2ded2f22c8dc37.JPG

Also saw local historian and talented layout modellers Ned Williams, who had a few clearance items for sale, a selection of which were of great use for me in the planning stages of Cambrian Street Station......this centred on the purchase of four lengths of assembled Metcalf 00 canopy......

This is to be used as 'in situ' reference both to see how the final 'new build' Metcalf canopies I am planning to use will look and more importantly fit in, this then to me, more easy to get straight in my head than solely relying on measuring up.....?

Here are the said second hand canopies, placed into the areas that are intended to be developed on the platforms.....please take no notice of the platform numbers shown on the canopies....

Here the canopy is wall attached with the remaining passenger edge protection running along the back edge of platform, intended to be provided by spear top fencing.....

Evening guys.....

Just musing on something and would appreciate your input...?

Wondering whether when it comes to the build part of the canopy integrated into the wall that runs along part of the  platform, the Metcalf stone effect cardboard wall could be replaced by a similar blue brick wall I'm currently developing, using the canopy though as built....?

Evening guys....

Hope that all are well....?

Here are a few images of what I am intending the station platform canopies akin to the way I would wish.....purchasing these canopies has been an inspiration to develop the station environs....I would hope to replicate the batch that I will build in the same manner, the basic framework being Metcalf I believe but Ned Williams has cleverly replaced the cardboard and skylight panels with corrugated plasticard to great effect...hope I may be the same....?

I hope that this corrugated effect card is readily available..?

Here are the views I hope will provide an Idea of what I'd wish to produce.....
