Not sure if anyone's seen this yet, but it pop up on Facebook today. Seems the first livery sample for the NCB version has arrived. Must say it really does look stunning! Going to be a hard chose between this livery and the Port of London version.

Can't wait to see what the other versions look like!

I have actually seen it and the printing is extremely good, decent dense colour and very neatly printed.  I don't know much at all about the real thing so I'm not fitted to comment on its accuracy but it definitely looks the business although the end handrails are 'very flexible'.

Looks smashing that, can't wait to see the other liveries. I would prefer the nameplates not to be printed though, they date the loco to the preservation era.

I'm hoping that they and the numbers come off easily - Northumberland Area NCB had a blue one that would look nice next to the DJM/Hattons Backworth WD, Hornby's Backworth No.49 and with a time warp machine Model Rail's Deleval No.35 USATC tank...

Which colliery/loco was that do you know? I didn't realise there were any other YE Janus in the NE apart from the (slightly different) ICI Billingham examples.

Which colliery/loco was that do you know? I didn't realise there were any other YE Janus in the NE apart from the (slightly different) ICI Billingham examples.

Yorkshire Engine 2708 of 1959, Janus type 3'8" driving wheeels, 440hp rating.  Delivered new to NCB Ashington on 11th March 1959, renumbered the following month to 101, with 9312/101 as its plant number.  This was displayed in small numbers below the worksplate.  It remained at Ashington until December 1974 when it moved briefly to Bates Colliery, Blyth, then to Horden Colliery in January 1975..  On 27th November 1978 it was sold to Thomas Hill, Rotherham  then sold on to British Steel, Brookhouse Coking Plant, Rotherham.  By 1989 it was running as No.6 at Orgreave works.

I have no records of it after that.  Can someone else fill in the blanks?

Ashington had a demonstrator from YE before 2708 was purchased.

Hope this helps.

That's great info, thanks very much.

I just had 2708 down as NCB Northern Division, but didn't know where it worked. Paul Bartlett has two photos of what is reportedly 2708 in green OOU at BSC Shelton in June 1994, carrying plant no 4044-23 and No. 69. All YE locos that worked at Orgreave seemed to get green livery.

A short video taking a look at the Oxford Rail Stand, during the Warley National Model Railway Exhibition.
On show, as well a huge display of Diecast Vehicles, was a number of up and coming and prototype Oxford Rail items, featuring the all new GWR Dean Goods (including the new limited Edition NRM Version), a selection of BR Mk3 coaches and Carflat.
On top of this there was also running samples of the new Sound Fitted Adams Radial Tanks, as well as the all new Golden Valley Hobbies, YE Janus 0-6-0DE.
Filmed Saturday 26th November 2016, we take a closure look at these new models, plus more.
Hope you enjoy!

Any new news on when these lovely things will be arriving? Last iv seen is early 2017 and i have overtime money burning a hole in my pocket!

Golden Valley have shown the NCB version as a January release in their adverts in the Feb model magazines, with no dates for the other versions, but looks like Jan is not going to happen. My local shop is trying to find out from GV.

I have been tempted by a kit build but i just know as soon as i get one/build one a rtr will be announced

Cheers

James

I should think you'll be fairly safe with a Taurus - they wouldn't sell enough to cover the cost of the tooling.

Didnt they say that about Heljans dinosaur diesel collection ? You just never know these days, admitedly it is a very specialist loco with a limited market but if the Janus sells well i wouldnt be surprised. I will no doubt take the plunge one day soon into etched kits and im sure a Taurus will be on my list.

Oddly enough the Janus seems to be one of the better industrial survivors.  Considering how long it is since any were built and the ready availability of ex-BR shunters cheaply there seem to be a remarkable number still running.

Perhaps it isn't quite as "specialist" as might be thought- and it can work a siding on any layout set in the late fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, noughties or this current decade.  That gives a loco with a span approaching sixty years.
