Sutton's Locomotive Works class 24

...if the weather were dry then I'd go outside and take a close up of the grilles in diffuse natural light. To me, harsh artificial light casts a shadow off the edge of the grilles which combines with the colour contrast to suggest error.

Comparing what you've shown to the link I've added, I say it's the best you can get. BTW some people might not like your constant replies, but I must say thank you. You've been very much instrumental in answering a lot of my queries and providing other useful info.

Rail Exclusive have said on the sale of the class 24, all existing customers of past models will get an e-mail for ordering one within the next  two weeks ,once they have exhausted all orders for those who want one , they will then offer them on the website,

Just to point out they have just got back to the office and as the staff level is just 2 ,please be patient, but if you are an existing customer and have not heard within the two weeks please contact Rail Exclusive

 

Thanks for that. But I do have one question... I thought that those who wanted one can simply drop them an email and buy one. Is that the case? Or do I (not a customer from before) have to wait until it goes on sale via the website in order to buy one?

....there are some who make up what they don't know and with the majority of modellers not having access to their own model yet then the least I can do is show close ups of what is being debated.

I am sure they are both very tired.

 

I admire them both in creating such a superb detailed model.

The event over the weekend was excellent.

What a fantastic way to launch a new Company "Suttons Locomotive Workshop" and a new loco the Class 24.

 

It's great to see a company looking after it's customers.

We were all amazed at the new Class 24, it's simply stunning and available to purchase there and then, no waiting

months for it to be produced.

Even the launch of the model was something new. A get together of invited customers at a special launch weekend.

Free refreshments provided and very good they were to (Thanks to all who helped with the catering).

A DCC sound seminar with Paul Cheeter DCC expert and very informative and helpful he was to,

Great presentation by Phil Sutton introducing the new company and a detailed talk on the development and introduction

of the new Class 24 model.

A demonstration of  3D scanning by Modelu again excellent and very helpful.

Not forgetting the excellent Layout "Mostyn" fully setup and running superb in every way.

 

All in all we had a very enjoyable day.

My thanks to everyone involved in putting this together.

The small body side grilles look ok but it's the main rad grille that doesn't look right. As has been commented it looks a bit coarse. When I get a min I'll try to show what I mean. All other aspects are good. Just the big grille. *caveat* I've not seen the model with my own eyes so don't shoot me down just yet. Let me do some research first and I will try to point out what I mean.

I don't believe the £160 price is the normal price, this is the previous customer price. Once these customers have had a chance to buy, the models will be open to anyone. I don't think the price is far off this, someone else might be able to confirm. There is extra for EM & P4 and sound.

Model looks good to me but this is way out of my normal knowledge.

No,as per my previous post, Rail Exclusive would like existing customers to wait for an email tp purchase a model, but contact them only if you do not get the email within the two weeks, answer to your question on purchase existing customers have first refusal and then RE will offer them for sales after that {at least 2 weeks]

I would like to see these people get into making rolling stock as well. The stuff you put behind the loco tends to get ignored or at best a it'll do attitude whilst people pay OTT for loco's (not that I think this is OTT, this is the same as what you would pay for the Olivia's em-1, and this is what that should have been to start with). I would like someone to make a HAA to these standards, with a correct shaped body, correct sprung buffer etc. this would show how much people like Hornby are overcharging for there models that ain't even correct.

 

I'm not sure if this is the ultimate 24, does it have sprung suspension? If not, I think this would have to be only the second best (but without a doubt the best RTR).

Looking at Dave's close up photos, a few posts up (post 134), it would appear that many of the concerns may spring from the photo of the Banger Blue example on the SLW website.

That Blue one doesn't look right. Dave's Green one looks superb.

 

The other issue raised is the glazing.

Is it just the light showing up the bottle lens effect in the front view photos, or does it look like that in normal conditions?

It's the same problem that afflicts a lot of RTR D&E models.

 

This is an excellent development in the RTR marketplace.

Along with Dapol's just announced Black Label A4 and a few other high-spec, high fidelity models , UK RTR is suddenly taking a very positive move forward.

 

p.s. The price is bl***y marvellous. Well done.

I completely agree.

I other markets (USA & Germany) there are RTR manufacturers who specialise in only making high-spec wagons and passenger cars.

We could really do with such a venture over here.

 

Having said that, Bachmann have produced some absolutely top notch wagons in recent years.

While D5000 looks superb in model form, I always thought that first livery (on D5000 only) looked so deadly dull - BR probably thought the same, hence all subsequent ones got what became the standard livery. Still, D5000 suits my Southern-based location, with most of the first 20 having spent some time on the Southern in the late 1950s and early '60s (normally 15 or so of the 20 at any one time).

On the grill question, can you  expect to distinguish the size of the grills with photos of a full size loco and one of a model, there being a discrepency in size of each subject [Full size working Loco and one of a 1/76 model, won't the full size loco parts always look smaller considering distances that both are photographed at? [ model and fullsize loco]
