Just to check then Matt we are talking about the horizontal mounted wheels used for changes of direction in wire runs are we, and not the little pulleys that carried the wire runs? I've got a couple out in the shed but too dark to go out measuring (well searching & measuring ) now but I estimate around the 2-3 inch mark.
LNERGE
The current Network Rail drawings show wheel sizes of 10 and 14 inches. The style has been around for a goodly number of years..
micknich2003
I have just looked through a c1926 Saxby & Farmer catalogue, chain wheels are listed up to 19ins diameter. The smaller pulleys as fitted to stakes in the wire run are 2 1/2ins diameter. Like "Station Master" says it will depend on company, or contractor and date of model. Mick Nicholson.
