Woodywood
Hello all Ive had a bit of an idea to hide the front edge of the baseboard and would like you opinion on it. My board is 9mm ply with 50mm supports all the way along the front edge good for a solid layout but not so good to look at. So my crazy idea was to build a roadway for cars coming off the layout and in front of the supports and going into a tunnel. I will have to use retaining walls as well and make a second base board for the road to run on but I think it will look a lot better than bare wood(The wifes not a big fan of bare wood) What do you think???? RMweb Gold chris p bacon Posted December 5, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2015 Doesn't that mean you're going to have a baseboard under the roadway you'll need to conceal ? Maybe with some underground stock....but then you've another baseboard under the underground......... You could try a pot of paint.....
Woodywood
The idea was that the lower base board would be that thin I could cover it with grass and the like so you would not see it at all
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 5, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2015 I would just do a face 'plate' and paint it a suitable colour; rather like a lot of exhibition layouts. Much easier and simple. P
TonyA
This is what I do with all my layouts. Ply is cut to the contour of the scenery, painted with wood stain and then fixed with brass screws in cup washers. I also apply the wood stain to the sides and back. I originally did it to hide where I used several different batches of ply. Another benefit is that it does not clash with the countryside scenery. aardvark
I'm just a beginner at this sport, and have yet to build a layout, but I had a thought that if you really wanted an alterative to a fascia then how about a triangular wedge representing a grassy embankment? RMweb Gold BoD Posted December 9, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 9, 2015 (The wifes not a big fan of bare wood) Tell her to run up a curtain or some drapes to cover the front of the layout. It's been nice knowing you.
Woodywood
Scrapped the whole idea because if I add anything to the front of the baseboards reaching over will become a little challenging
