slilley
Recently acquired a picture of 55018 when it had domino style headcode but with the small white dots not the standard sized ones for the time. Does anyone know when it carried this style until it was altered to the normal sized ones? Simon
Pyewipe Jct
According to 'The Chronicles of Napier', Ballymoss carried the small dots until its final Intermediate overhaul in July 1977 - when it left the works in December 1977, its route indicator panel was plated over. Details are here: 55018 Ballymoss, 9th July 1977 From photos, though, 55018 seems to have had both standard-sized and small dot markers during the same period at least in 1976, so presumably each end was different? 55018 Ballymoss, 16th November 1975 (small dots) 55018 Ballymoss, 24th January 1976 (large dots) 55018 Ballymoss, 23rd May 1976 (small dots) 55018 Ballymoss, 11th August 1976 (large dots) 55018 Ballymoss, 29th June 1977 (small dots) HTH, Kevin
DelticBlade
If you ask on the Class 55 FB I'm sure that someone will come up with an exact date. There are some incredibly knowledgable people about, even for the slightest detail. That includes 1 or two wipers, cab air vents and rust patches/nose end blemishes. Flood
One end had a plate on the RH nose side, the other end didn't. I reckon the end without the plate (also looking at the photo at Newcastle it is the end with the boiler exhaust ports) has the small dots whereas the other end (confirmed by the photo at York) has normal size dots.
