Fat Controller
No one seems to have found the definitive answer yet. I know they held some type of oil/fuel you could still smell it around the bases in the 60's.Bunker fuel for the various naval vessels that patrolled the Straits? David Todd
I have taken short clip video over the passed couple of weeks. Some you may not have seen. I decided to upload 9 last night, while I slept, overnight. Here are 2 of them, the last one you have seen, but it is a follow on from the first,a few seconds later. I caught this procedure as I was just setting up on arrival last week. It shews, that after the pile hole has been driven at 90. Feet. How the water is extracted from the hole.
bigherb
Bunker fuel for the various naval vessels that patrolled the Straits? There are five underground tanks in the cliffs above the harbour each holding over 4 million gallons of fuel, these where tiny in comparison.

David Todd
Sorry but very tight for time tonight, so I will only give the Salient Point's of today. The start of a new working week. The East end, loading and unloading bay's. The delivery bay's have been cleaned out,so it looks like no more material's for the site.for awhile. The bay's are now being filled with spoil from the storage bay, which was drilled out for the piles. I have checked there is no train on the list tomorrow. enz
There are five underground tanks in the cliffs above the harbour each holding over 4 million gallons of fuel, these where tiny in comparison. G'day Just a suggestion, but could the tanks have been connected to the 1940 invasion beach protection plan, where the idea was to spread oil offshore of the beaches and ignite it? I've seen film of it tested but I don't know if any sites were installed; if they were, then it would make sense for Dover to be high up the list of places to get it. Happy to be shot down (but for preference not into a flaming sea ). Regards - E

Blackbirds ? They should be Bluebirds, late plumage change this year ! Q. Vera Lynn. Sunday,as I was descending the ridge, there were flocks and flocks of Swallows, coming in from France.
jukebox
Blackbirds ? They should be Bluebirds, late plumage change this year ! Q. Vera Lynn. Sunday,as I was descending the ridge, there were flocks and flocks of Swallows, coming in from France. If the typical annorak's profile is correct, they may well have been bearded tits. I do not twitch, so cannot tell. Swallows, you say? I thought the Intercity Livery was long gone... Of course, in our reminiscing of Prince Harry's fancy dress exploits, I did forget to remind casual readers here of the curious trivia that these piles are in fact located closer to France than they are to London... David Todd
Do you know what the tanks where for that where behind the cottages. Storage Tanks, built Ito the hillside, below, running left of Center. Taken many years ago, the A2, Jubblie Way now runs down, below the cottages and out on to a viaduct at the cliff edge,to Eastern Docks. To my mind, the viaduct, should have shot out, from Fan Bay, Edited April 19, 2016 by David Todd
