RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted June 28, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 28, 2020 Got a job done that I've been meaning to do for quite a while. When I built the goods shed I built it from my own drawing from my own measurements of the real thing, The canopies were added as the track side one is in the background of one of the few photos, the main subject being the train, the road side canopy is based on NER practice and other similar sheds. I never really put much thought in to a chimney, there isn't one there now and had no idea where one might be. This was until I found this photo a couple of years ago. I started out with an unidentified grey moulded chimney that was about the right size and height, the angle was corrected for the shed roof. It was clad with brick plasticard and a whitemetal pot fitted. 29

What a lovely NER loco, if you don't mind me asking, what's the class of the loco? Is that a NER brake van in front of it? I like the setting, it feels spacious. Credit to you. 3

Surely the locomotive facilities were at the other end, at the top of the incline, to avoid unnecessary haulage of loco coal wagons etc.? I doubt there's much in the way of water facilities here either, unless the crew have a large funnel and are happy to wait for the tank to fill up with rainwater. Shouldn't take too long on most days... Edited July 12, 2020 by Compound2632

Shouldn't take too long on most days... The coal bunker would only be a small one for the staff in the goods shed...it gets mighty cold up there even in summer...they’d just borrow the odd bucket of coal from a passing loco...and over the years you’d get a fair accumulation of ash...tipped down the nearest embankment...the ash is probably still there if you go looking for it. Now that Paul’s got his chimney, he just needs the rest to go with it! 1

I'm with you now. But these are the ex-Vikings who nowadays are out washing the car on a freezing Sunday morning in January in their vest, waiting for their daughters to come home from Saturday night out on the town in mini-skirt and crop top. They don't need heating. 1

If follows a rake of coal wagons as they ascend and descend the various inclines on the NCB Bowes line...the fist thing the lads do in the morning is light a fire and get the kettle on...and hell yes it gets cold up in Rosedale, uncle Porsea comes from those parts and he took me across a short cut one night and we got stuck in the snow 20 yards short of the top...we tried driving backwards, side wards and off road...had to give in in the end for laughing too much.

RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted July 18, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 18, 2020 The site of 'The Depots' was almost on telly last night, 'North York Moors: a year in the wild' on BBC 2 last night at 9 heavily featured Rosedale and the track of the railway. Also featured my old primary school at Egton Bridge. Check it out on the BBC iPlayer.

(Also No. 1860 so I suppose taken on the same occasion in 1929). Oddly, the 1891 OS 25" map shows trees on the bank below the railway but not the 1910 survey. In that gallery, there's a splendid photo of C2 No. 24628 with shaded lettering.

Killybegs
Is that the track bed that forms part of the Coast to Coast path, it certainly looked familiar. Having said that it was nearly thirty years ago that I walked that!
