Hi Jamie,

Under the buffer beam there is a small gap, so I have used a bent paper clip as a temporary measure, I have also isolated the motor removing the wire from the dummy bogie, and taken out two cogs so the 91 is free wheeling and powerless until I put a decoder in it later in the week when it arrives, the layout is powered by a gaugemaster prodigy express so I dont have DC only DCC

The gap can be seen on this cropped hattons photo post-9437-0-09472000-1526159713.jpg

oh right, useful to know.

yes I can see from that, I've done something similar on the HST's, but as to be either a Lima or the latest models, on a Lima I use a dummy like you and take another Lima's back bogies off another Dummy HST as the rear bogies are shaped in such a way to go under the two small tanks witch  are fixed to the HST Body, you can see on a Lima HST chassis so I use another Lima HST rear bogie and put one on the front Bogie and it enables it to go under the front of the HST body and makes the perfect connection to hook up and class 57 to pulled, there are some of the early Hornby HST's you couldn't do it with as the two small tanks were on the Bogie itself so the bogie wasn't shaped in a way you could put it on the front bogie, the bogies was just straight rather than bent under and over so to speak. If you ever see a HST back bogie you will see what I mean.

Interesting...

Regards

Jamie

My class 56 is a second hand model of 56128 West Burton Power Station, the buffers are glued in and it didn`t have a detail pack but it still looks great to me :)

As with most good things Carr Crofts has come to an end as did Henry Musgrave`s coal yard.

It was good fun, and I have enjoyed everyone`s comments and advise, the research and making a layout.

So the next thing for me is Metaley. For the time being Carr Crofts is to be a experiment for the new layout to test idea`s again to practice and gain more modelling skills try differing techniques and the like.

The Carr Crofts layout is in a way being recycled probably until next year (when I will build new boards) but without the coal yard which has been ripped up to make way for a experimental scrap metal yard

The last picture showing some wood again where the new lines are to be laid

The metaley thread is http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/132703-metaley/

I hope people will have a look :)

  • 1 year later...

Such a lot has gone on since this, and Metaley layouts.

I have refurbished my house now and had a good break from railway modelling.

Anyway we ( the Mrs and Myself ) have applied for a mortgage for a new home, still early days on that however I am still in my present old home for the foreseeable future, the new house subject to a mortgage and all that stuff wont be finished being built until about march time.

To cut the story a bit short I am going to do a plank for a while until the move then maybe a new layout eventually but we will see.

Tomorrow will see a point or two and a few bits of flexi strung together.

I am still recovering from renovating my home though lol, so lets see where this will take me

Wow,

It has been a long time from the start of the house moving process to the end, Vicky, the kids and Myself have moved in ( we have been in the new home for about 2 months ) it was worth it, more to pay on the mortgage etc.

I now have a dedicated room for a layout !

There was a lot of work to do with the house, beds wardrobes, shed, decking etc considering it is a new build house but its coming along nicely. The main issues were delivery's from various places.

I made a start on a Peco depot but am short of track at the moment however a visit to a shop later may sort that out.

the new shed...

The depot is going to be called Mulberry Depot, I am also thinking of having a colliery, scrap yard ( again ), and station however i am very undecided at the moment about everything and am just going with the flow.

I was impressed how you used your space as well. I like Northern England, BR Sectorisation, coal and steel trains as well as your trackplan, so your layout 'tickled my fancy' (lol - 'tickled my fancy' more playful than 'ticked all my boxes').

Sorry for the second quote post, but I remembered I left something out...

I am also impressed with your coal loader, too. I remember inheriting a few Railway Modeller issues from my Uncle and in one of the  issues they had a feature about such constructions and spent my post-GCSE summer looking at that feature and listening to The Rolling Stones on my CD player (I think my Dad chucked the magazines out when I moved home). Regardless of that, its good to see something built. Like I say, its good and look forward to seeing updates!

Well it looks like I am back properly now.

The layout is being slowly built in the loft at home, there isn't much space up there because of the angle of the roof etc however the layout is approximate 20 foot by 12 foot.

It has a depot, Colliery and a bit of a station.

The coal loader is a Walthers structure and the colliery shed is the knightwing engine shed kit, there is a few scaledale structures too for various buildings on the site.

The Depot is the one that I built when I moved to the new house which is four Peco kits joined together the fifth kit is spare at the moment so is getting stored so the depot has four roads, next to the depot building is three stabling roads, at the front of the depot building is a Bachmann washing plant and Knightwing fueling points.

the photos bellow were taken just before the 3 stabling roads were added

The station at the moment is planks of wood, eventually the station will be just the ends of the platforms so I will have more running train space with scenery built at the line-side, with the old Carr Crofts layout I enjoyed making the grass and slope etc.

Platforms are a little longer now and nearer to completion, the brick works been painted, the cement is still to be painted in-between the bricks, so still a bit to go.

The Weighbridge for the colliery is nearly there too, I will be weathering over next week or so.

I have had a change for the depot area, but after a friend had mentioned I could do with a avoiding line around the washer so this isnt the final version just yet but its what it looks like so far, the depot building is now smaller.

Progress is slow with the layout, I did a video recently though, At the moment I am spending time on days out mainly with my family and doing lots of D.I.Y with my MRS which is great, moving house the other year has brought us all closer as a family, we are close anyway but even more so now :)

I will be doing little bits with the layout over the winter, there is lots to do just in little bits and bats at the moment

Anyway the video

If you don't mind me asking, what make are the storage tanks? Are they made up of two halves - I only have a small space to fit them and full size might be too big.

The tanks are a Piko kit, Its not two halves, its HO ( not OO) which is why they look smallish on the photos, some more photos of the kit are on my web site

http://www.mulberryjunction.co.uk/page10.html

There is a short version of the kit too.

The catalog number is "Piko PK61121" for the big version and " Piko PK61104 " for the short version

The prices are anywhere between £26 and £55
