Do you still hold a candle for any of them?

Propriety forbids me to answer that question.

There is actually another answer too but RMweb rules forbid me from posting it.

Remembering some of the persons/entities/humanoids/semi-sentient beings I woke up to in my younger days is one of the horrors of getting old, - or so it seems to me.  Fortunately deciding it was all silly and not bothering with it anymore was my salvation, but unfortunately the threads of memory remain still even now causing me to awake in the night with the piteous cry, 'What were you thinking you stupid woman!'

For the avoidance of doubt, none of my previous posts on this subject refer to any RMweb member past or present (as far as I am aware...).

This bit about memory is getting a bit Lewis Carroll

Quote

You are old, Father William," the young man said,
"And your hair has become very white;
And yet you incessantly stand on your head-
Do you think, at your age, it is right?"

"In my youth," Father William replied to his son,
"I feared it might injure the brain;
But, now that I'm perfectly sure I have none,
Why, I do it again and again”

Are you 100% certain that it only appeared to be a waxwork?

St Enodoc - my two visits to Mdme T’s were a few months ago, and during some sort of power/coal workers strike in about 1976 (there was a power cut during it), and a lot has changed in that time, in fact nothing hasn’t, and it has gone from very bad to even worse.

I've been in Tussauds a couple of times in the course of my work (not as a paying guest) and I'm amazed that anyone would fork out the small fortune required to get in. Bizarrely my sister-in-law and family love it and visit regularly throughout the year.  I doubt anything changes enough to warrant more than one visit in a lifetime.

The excesses of Christmas and the New Year have finally caught up with everyone.  Its a good thing that we don't go the whole hog on the Twelve Days of Christmas (12th Night is on Sunday) otherwise we would be frazzled wrecks until mid-January!

Nice picture, it reminds me of the time we passed through March on the Middle Levels...

Ewwww.....

Completely off topic for here, but I'll be making a start on the baseboard for my little N gauge layout depicting a freelance preserved railway based on Andrews House station...

We still have a third of a Christmas pudding, quarter of the Christmas cake, nine mince pies, half a tub of brandy butter, and a third of a bottle of port to go - so we may make it through to Twelfth Night. The turkey carcass went to food waste recycling on Friday, having been picked clean. The excess does wear off to the point that by New Year's Day one can face the cheeses and yesterday I even did some gentle modelling. A brisk walk is on the cards for today - much needed. But @Lecorbusier has PM'd me some photos of Midland passenger trains for carriage identification (NSFW) so I may suffer a relapse.

Not to mention a good 'Fen Blow'.  Still, a tad soggier than Annie's picture, and fewer mountains, I'd say.

Make of the metaphor of arid desert what you will ....

Well, there's a reason to be cheerful. I'd love to see you do this.

I love Andrews House. It's the perfect freelance/LR station, IMHO, with bags of character.

Should it have an apostrophe, though?

Interesting thought. There is an upmarket interiors emporium called Designers Guild – no apostrophe as it was founded by Tricia Guild and her brother. Not sure what relevance if any to Andrews House though...

Making something grammatically incorrect means it is possible to take out a trademark, hence “Lands’ End” for the clothing brand, but Land’s End for the place name.

'Tumbleweed, perfect for every awkward moment.'  Now I do like that.

What a lovely small station Andrews House is however it might be punctuated.  It's nice too that it's not been over preserved and polished to the point of losing all its charm.

"over-preserved" is not something I associate with the Tanfield, and that might be part of the reason why it's such a magical little line ....

(Too soon?)

This theme, along with TT-Pete's picture above, reminds me of a joke that is now, astonishingly, nearly 40 years old.

A few weeks before the Royal Wedding, Lady Diana was feeling a bit queasy in her stomach so she asked the chemist what she should do.

"Have you tried Andrew's?"

"Give me a chance, I haven't tried Charles' yet".

I thank you.

None too sure about preserved lines that compost their rolling stock in sidings, but I do like that saloon coach.  And that little green saddle tank is insanely cute.

Lovely family portrait by the way.
