Anyone looking for more 'victims' may like these:

I believe he posts internationally, if you're desparate and they don't go for too much, I'll act as intermediary.

A lone "silver Queen" can be seen in the background of the latest batch of photos on Dave F's photos thread here, http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/85326-dave-fs-photos-ongoing-more-added-22nd-may/?p=2730746

It seems to be getting attention from the C&W. A good excuse to run a single one in a train after receiving such attention and returning to home base.

This is a very handy thread as I'm part way through bashing an N gauge LA. It's been slow progress but to date I've knocked up the basic body (although no details yet added) and decided to use a 15ft Peco chassis, which while not fully accurate does at least have a form of double link suspension. I'm going to file the hand brake lever flat and most of it should be hidden behind the sole-bar strengthening fillets/gussets. Not sure how I'll make them but perhaps thin etched brass/nickel silver:

I probably ought to post a link to the modelling thread for this project : http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/123247-bashing-a-cemflo-la-silver-queen/&do=findComment&comment=2761461

and/or to even save the bother of viewing it, here's some pics of as far as I've got to date:

As a local can I refer back to the photo of the 26 at Dunbar. There was a regular working northbound in the evening about seven o clock with a 26 and cemflos which also included a box van in Blue Circle colours which started from Oxwellmains and ran to Aberdeen as I recall.

I photographed it on a few occasions but the slides are long lost. This would be in the early 70s when I lived near East Linton

The sidings on the Down side remain pretty much the same as when the Cemflo’s were running and the Blue Circle vans (BV) many were stored there for a while! The Up side is now where Virador unload containers of waste but the cement loading structures have long since gone.

A model that is long overdue to current standards since the Triang one leaves a lot to be desired, what is worse there are plenty others that could do with an upgrade.

As an aside to this topic, when I was at North Berwick High School,a group of us were taken as part of career studies around Oxwellmains cement works about 1964.

This included the quarry which at that time had a 3'6" gauge railway feeding the limestone into the works. It was later abandoned in favour of high capacity trucks and was I believe sent to a works in Malaysia.

Regarding a model, I had been wondering what would be involved in a kit, after all, it's a very simple shape, and no brake gear to speak of, right?.

A resin casting for the tank perhaps? But that couldn't reproduce the scale 1/4" plate edge exposed by the enclosing sides to the ends where the brake cylinders are located.

Etched tank then? But many people are scared of rolling metal sheets, how loudly would they grumble? Resin cast former with etched wrapper perhaps?

Underframe. Lots of rivets when you count them up. If we etch those, we lose the ability to half-etch fold lines, on the other hand, folks would go mental pressing them out for a whole rake's worth.

Brake gear. Well, it does exist, instead of dangling vertically in the traditional manner, it has been 'hinged' up to lie horizontally just under the underframe, and spread around a bit to avoid the hopper discharge.

Becoming conscious of part count, a designer might simplify things by making brake gear low-relief, but here, this would affect the profile view - and I do like the profile view of a train on an embankment!

Besides, Cemflos are famous for lying on their sides, to reveal all.

Top-side fittngs. There's the lump of the hatches coupled to some rather delicate hinge/clamp ironwork, wood plank catwalks which are intermediate between lumpy and delicate. Then there's the discharge air piping. Tricky for the builder to form accurately from rod, so definitely some form of lanky casting, with shrinkage allowance to be considered if mating with parts made by a more predictable process.

Underframe fittings. A variety of suspension components and axleboxes, for several prototype design iterations, mostly not available from third-party suppliers, handbrake brake gearboxes, vacuum reservoir and cylinders, with their prominent support brackets.

Can everybody be kept happy with one kit? Sorry, no. The Gloucester and Metro-Cammell builds were significantly different, resulting in the end walls, for instance, being different heights

So, to do it justice, a multi-media kit, with significant proportions of etch, resin and cast metal components. (I think even a modern RTR job would struggle with some of the finer characteristics.)

I couldn't see it being any less expensive than Rumney Models' Blue Spot van, and we remember the howls about that! With a pair of Heljan jobbies up front, that would be getting on for a Grand per train!

The Nim.

Weren't the up and down trains supposed to cross at Dringhouses yards?

This way the crew on the down 33-hauled train could go back with the up service; and similarly with the 40 which had the train north of York?

In that case seeing full and empties in a short space of time was not unusual in the York area.

Found the RCTS Zenfolio site by chance.  http://rcts.zenfolio.com

It includes a colour image of one of these on the following page (doesn't seem possible to link to the actual photo?):

I see this image has been referenced a couple of times in the thread, but without a link to the actual picture.  Anyway, such a clear image I hope it is of interest.

BTW, the RCTS site is worth a trawl for other interesting images!

Cheers,

Some interesting images there, but at two quid a go I think I'll stick with Paul!

The silly squiggle above a photo brings up the URL  http://rcts.zenfolio.com/rolling-stock/br/ea0fcc6f4

Lovely photo, worth a couple of quid.

Yes, that is a very nice photograph. It would have been very useful when we were having discussions about the colour scheme on the branding.

More interesting is that so much of the underframe is grey - but possibly the wagon next to it appears to have the suspension bracket (more conventionally) in black.

But, to a tight Yorkshireman brought up on your 50p downloads, a kings ransom!

PS. Don't go getting any ideas!!!!!!!!

A bit late but I've just literally got this!. Memories of Steam from Glasgow to Aberdeen photo 182 is of the empty Aberdeen to Oxwellmains cement train passing Cove Bay behind V2 60844 on 15th July1965 made up of Cemflos

In addition photo 176 is of the same working behind 60027 Merlin crossing Glenury viaduct in March 1965.This one has one of the box vans I referred to earlier immediately behind the loco
