Would the allied markings (or the whole tank) be covered over on the Panthers while in German territory?

In reality, yes they would be covered over. But that wouldn't make an interesting model. So a little bit of artistic license is being applied.

If all this equipment was going over this bridge after D Day i'm surprised the Allies didn't try and take it out.

In fact they did, but not very successfully and it was quite by accident when they discovered that it was still intact.

The two BR44's got their weathering completed this morning. They're looking suitably grimy and ready for action.

One will go on the Operation Greif Train, while the other one is heading to the Messerschmitt Train.

I'm pretty happy with the way these two have turned out...

I sometimes wonder if I'm making things too complicated. This is one of the relay banks that controls the cascade the fiddle yard tracks.

It works in conjunction with a Azatrax train detector (or should once connected up) to hold trains in the fiddle yards sections and automaticlly shuffle them forward once the train ahead departs.

Next batch of locos to get running. A Minitrix BR24 and BR64 and a Fleischmann BR53.

The BR24 has broken valve gear on one side, so I might have to do something different with this one.

Progress on the fiddle yard boards.

50% of the wiring done on one of the boards (which is 12.5% overall). The next stage is to test the cascade and find out if it works the way I planned.

I've been slowly working on these two V188 locos.

Both have been weathered and almost ready to roll. However while testing them last night I discovered on both of them one of the floating axles is jammed over to one side which makes them derail on tight curves. Hopefully it's a quick fix and I can sort them out tonight.

Al,

I like the camouflage scheme but do you plan to change the numbers? These engines belonged to the Wehrmacht who numbered them D311.01a/b to D311.06a/b.

D311.05 and D311.06 were never completed and the others were not numbered V188 until at least March 1948 when allocated to the Deutsche Reichsbahn, later Deutsche Bundesbahn.

Wallie (the camouflaged one) has already had the numbers painted out. Unfortunately I can't find a new set to replacement them.

Yes, that's an interesting and effective camouflage scheme (the light and dark green).

Do you apply it yourself?

G.

There's several black and white photos on the net of the loco in that scheme. The light green took ages to paint...

I weathered the tiny BR53 this morning. Right now I've mixed thoughts about the end result. I don't think the brown wash has gone right and I'm in half a mind to strip it back and start again.

Good progress today on the fiddle yard control system. The cascade got tested and for some unexplainable reason it worked. Next stage is to wire up the other half then move onto the other three boards.

In other news, the BR24 is progressing. Here's a few sneak pics.

You may remember I posted a while ago a few pics of the new fiddle yard and its wiring. Well today I completed the first section and successfully tested it. And here's a short video clip of it in action.

Rather then the traditional storage sidings in line abreast, I've opted for four patrolled tracks each sub-divided into 8 section. The trains stack up on each track nose to tail. As the lead train departs and heads out onto the layout, the rest automatically cascade forward to leave an empty section at the rear of the fiddle yard to receive the next train in.

The full horror of the fiddle yard wiring.

This is just 1 of 4 boards. Fully tested and working.

All these wires allow the fiddle yard to be 'fit and forget'. The yard presents a train to the operator who drive though the layout to deposit at the other end, keeping the operator focuses on driving the layout and not the fiddle yard.

This ones still work in progress.

The BR24 from earlier with the broken valve gear is undergoing a major transformation.

I've taken inspiration from the armoured BP-44 train and added armoured plates and a second tender to the BR24. The basic structure is done. It's now time to add the detail.

Once the loco is complete a short take of armoured wagon will follow.

With the loco almost finished, thought have turned to the rest of the armoured train.

These will be the first four wagons. The out two will be flat car pusher wagons. The next two will be tank carrying wagons with captured French Somus S35 tanks.

There's a couple more wagons planned between the tank carrying wagons and the loco. I'm thinking about something along the ones of this.
