SCRATCH BUILT MODERN EUROPEAN STYLE WAGONS 4mm ish

Recommended Posts

Just checked out the Cavalax website....pretty impressive. Would be great if they are prepared to sell the bogies separately. Although looking at looking at the build quality I suspect they would be expensive. Any news on the possibility of Dapol bogies as spares? Costs?

Morning all. Just spotted this item, however I might be the only person on the planet who doesn't already know about them.

Kernow models RTR 'Y25C' bogie. First impressions are that it is pretty good. Reasonably priced, for a pair, comparable to Bachmann for their wagon bogies. It has suddenly got me thinking of more wagons I could have a go at or wagons I could install them under.

Even as I type this I can hear the likely future conversation with Mrs Grizz, politely enquiring why on earth I would need any more of these things, haven't I got enough of these things already and where am I going to put the things when I have built them. In my mind these are all mere fiddly details that can wait until much much later.....hopefully.  :)

I noticed those a few weeks ago and I'm tempted as have a few butchered HO wagons that would benefit. I've got a couple more Jouef Polybulks to cut and shut into Grainflow ones and a cut and shut lengthened Electrotren straight sided Polybulk that really needs bigger bogies as well.

Well guys, still no news on the Dapol bogies - I asked at Warley but it's still the same answer.....we'll do them when we do the next batch! Very frustrating!

What's even more frustration is the lack of bogies for the JNA-As.....I may have to see if Revolution can send me a spare JNA-T bogie and I'll hack it around and get some cast up.

Cheers for the heads up Scoobyra. Frustrating or what.

Another blow for my wagon scratch building, just found out that the gentleman running Genesis Models has retired and I now can't source his quality white metal rectangle buffers. These were always my go to buffers for wagon building, really great value at £1.50 for four. Suspect that the odd packet will appear on a well known auction site for massively inflated prices.

Over the years, when batch building 20 or so wagons at a time, they have really helped keep the overall price down and make the scratch building projects viable.

S-Kits also make them. He's not got a web-site, but normally has an advert in Rail Express Modeller. Typically, there's not one in the mag nearest to my computer

Just found another mag:-

By snail-mail:- 16 Barrow Road, Sileby, Loughborough LE12 7LP

Yeah George has a wide range of stuff - it just takes ages to get hold of him. I'm just about to order 8 JYAs for my Mendip Train

Hey scratchbuild those jya!!

I gave up on the  Dapol axle motion bogies and just ordered some from George.

Yes George is difficult to get hold of.. Probably better off going to Burton next Yr and stock up on everything. Does anyone know if he has produced the pha kit yet?? The one that Dapol are doing..

I believe accurascale are selling oleo sprung buffers as spares if it helps. And nairnshare modelling supplies do a good range on buffers..

Georges JYAs will get me out of a hole and we're going to work on a JNA-A between us. I'm at DEMU with my trainset so be sure to say hello if you're going.

I've yet to find anyone that makes the right buffers for the low top JNAs as they're inverted (the outer pushes over the inner) which was most annoying when I built my GJH Plant 7mm ones!

Cheers

Mike

Morning all. What is the saying about 'Every Cloud has a silver lining'....Due to local conditions and following medical advice, I am now in solo isolation for at least 14 days. ....wooooohoooooo. 14 days of uninterrupted modelling. There is a god!

So I thought I'd have a go at hacking a bunch of Hornby SAA wagon bodies into bogie bolster wagons.

I have already previously built four but need some more.

Pogress so far. The project has now been extended to 12 weeks minimum. Let's hope that the contract doesn't get cut short. Read into this what you will. In all seriousness good luck to y'all.

Back to the project.

There is a slight alteration from the initial build due to the use of a shed load of Jouef wagon under frames in cut and shut form.

Just what I was thinking  the same Grizz.. Can't socialise and need to fill my mind with something after and Inbetween work duties.. What with football and ally pally cancelled I find myself with time on my hands more than usual.. I hope this bizarre time ends soon.. Things must be getting desperate as I've got a new battery for my wammy peddle for my electric guitar!!

I'm gonna attempt that Bardon pha/Jga that cavalax have in the pipeline, because of its interesting shape- its more than a box!! Been on my mind for months and mixed in with other wagons in the yard will add interest.. And no I don't think il do a  'Grizz' rake!! I get to distracted!

How are the bolsters doing.. I take it you've used 2 ssa per wagon and made up another underframe for them to sit on??

Marco, superb as ever mate. Those Bardon hoppers have always been one of my favourites.

As far as the batch built bolsters go it has been slow going for some reason.
I ended up using just one of the SAA wagons cut in half and then building up the middle to suit. This batch vary from the original batch in that they have lower side girder support towards the outside of the wagon. These are going to be designated for carrying track panels and rails etc.

The wagons have taken ages to assemble. The good old TF25 supply is still going strong, it’s the Bachmann 36-061 straight couplings I have almost run out of. Seems like they are out of stock just about everywhere.

The coupling hook was made from chopping up an old Hornby coupling hook.

Still to decide what livery to spray them in. I am leaning towards grey and probably weathered. But then again maybe blue....

The railway has to keep running despite the nonsense going on out there... I see a lot of light engine workings going past on the railway whenever I look.. Must be a indication of a reduction in traffic..

I'm bashing around some lima pga at the mo.. Amazing how many different prototype there were..

Whilst not 100% scratch built, my JNA/A has finally got started. I’ve used a Roco box as a base and built around it. Once it’s finished I should be able to cast some more. Bogies may be available from George at some point but I’m using a set of my Revolution JNA/T ones at present.

Interesting project scooby, are you intending it to be a version of the Mrl jna?

If you are short on Tf25 bogies Grizz has zillions of them, don't tell him I told you!

The Roco wagons look interesting to buy as they are, as a alternative to the expensive revolution JNA? . Only disadvantage being slightly out of scale(?)  I did attempt a build of the newer jna but wasn't completely happy with it as I couldn't get the paint and transfers right. Maybe il revisit them. Can't go to the pub at the moment anyway! I hope we can get back to some normality soon as I need some bogies off George and he usually makes Burton!

Who's bought a hattons 66??
