Got the build pretty much done now. Just some bits and bobs inside the cab to sort tomorrow.  It does need a really good clean up of 'on show' solder which I hate having. Also a little bit if filling on left hand sandbox.

Now for an old favourite of mine, Agenoria kits designed and supplied by Pete Stamper.  This kit of the Cleobury & Mortimer as rebuilt by the GWR into pannier tanks and this kit was supplied by Mike Williams.

 

This is going together in the true Agenoria way. Fiddly and very little fettling required up to now. It will be GWR No. 29 when finished.

 

 

No 28 I built ages ago for my own light railway when Pete Stamper was in charge.

 

 

Chassis started yesterday, no problems there.

 

 

Wheels on and running perfect straight from the off.

 

 

Today, got the chassis done and body starting tomorrow.

Right then, been a bit tied up last couple of days or so, so now able to continue with No 29 build.

 

Body is under way, so far so good. Ready now to tackle the pannier tank and stuff it full of lead weight.

Well that's the worst bit over, bending the tank accurately.  No for the roof and then making a start on the details.

Build is now complete. Tomorrow the big clean and priming.  It took all day yesterday to prepare the LW castings, very poor with lots of flash and holes etc in the castings.

 

I trust the current ones will not be like that as I wish to purchase some for my own layout.

What a lovely pannier. I will just have to get one from Ragstone Models when they start producing it.

Hi. It's been a while since the Dukedog build was completed. Today I actually got round to a add the plates, crew and coal. Then some weathering.

 

Here we see driver Gwyn and fireman Joe on the first goods run to Trenruth.  Loco is entering the headshunt to await the signal to clear for the tender first back to the junction.

Just a quickie post.   Finished this LNER passenger brake today.. More about it tomorrow after priming.

It looks more LNWR to me. Typo error maybe.

OK. The LNWR passenger brake is now ready for delivery.   This was a very basic kit with a request to add detail to make it similar to other 4 & 6 LNWR coaches in the rake and that's what I've done.  The roof is soldered to the body as the whole body will unscrew to gain access for adding glazing.

I picked one of these N8/N9 kits up from the Bring and Buy at Doncaster yesterday.  It's not in the original box but the label said that it was a George Norton kit and the boiler looks the same as the one in yours (turned brass). Did yours have an etched chassis? I ask as this one has what looks like a Premier chassis (milled brass) and a pair of Premier rods.  It also has a set of sprung pick ups of a type that I haven't seen before but they look like they will do the job.

Hi Rob.  Mine was the etched chassis.  There are some older very interesting plunger pickups about. They all seem to work OK though.

I will definitely post progress when I get it under way.

I had a further rummage in the box and although there is a handwritten note on top saying that it's a George Norton Kit, there is nothing on the etches to indicate the draughtsman and the instructions are labeled as "07 Kits (K Dales)" so it may not be one of George's kit's after all. in any event I got it at a very reasonable price so I shan't complain.

Here we go again.  This one is for my Trenruth layout and is the Gladiator Dean Goods. This is to be finished in BR black.  The usual design for Gladiator uses for the tenders, so no surprises.

 

The only tricky part the flare. I use the fingers for the corners, not the cast ones supplied. That is just my preferred method.

Onwards now with the loco.  I did the prep of the etches yesterday, today was a pleasant day assembling it all.  I was really chuffed that the chassis ran faultlessly with the coupling rods straight off the pillar drill with no reaming required. That does not happen very often.

 

Now ready to build the body.

Body is underway. Going fairly well so far. The boiler is not bolted in place yet that's why is drooping forwards a bit.  Nothing difficult so far either.

After a lovely day on the canal in a barge, it's back to the WB.   2538 is now quite well under way with no real issues just some niggling ones to sort out. The s/box wrapper was a bit of a nuisance to get right was was the worst bit.

 

Onwards and forwards.

I see it has one of those old 4 wheeled tenders.

Almost done now.  Insignia/number plates/shed plate,  crew, coal, glazing and weathering then finally the Dinghams to fit.

 

I added quite a bit of weight to the boiler and fitted a multi stage power unit, so runs very well and will pull a lot more than my modest layout can accommodate. 

 

 

 

PS Peter, I swopped the tender for a 6 wheeler.

The Dean on her first duties at Trenruth.  Lightly weathered and running very quiet with the 3 stage motor unit. 

 

And now for what will be a very nice change, one of my own range of kits from quite a while ago, the KENSCALE NSR Class B. Quite amazed when the original unstated kit pops up.

 

In the meantime the Dean Goods.

Today starts the Kenscale NSR Class B tank.  Quite a while since I built one of these. It's a bit strange following my one instruction sheets as I cannot quite remember how they went together

 

Chassis done now for the body.

Gone quite well today, all fitting together well. I think it would have been better to aid construction it some half etch locating groves as added in my later kits. (This did require some careful measuring that did dot faze me on the test build.) After all this was my first one produced and you quickly learn better ways.

That looks very nice! Did you do any Hill and Barnsley locos in the Kenscale range Ken?
