Right, off we go with another Gladiator kit. The Patriot this time.  Starting with the tender, this was a very easy one to build, very little fettling required to fit it together. The most fiddly part were the coal rails especially soldering the small supports to them.

The photo makes the fire iron support seem off the upright, this is not so on the actual model though.

Hi everyone.   I will be out of action for a few weeks following an operation on my shoulder.   Sever damage to the tendon and muscle requiring repair to both plus removal of some bone means being strapped up and mobilised for quite a period.

It will be a very boring time.

I'll keep in touch on the forum though.   Ken

I thought it had gone quiet: I was expecting that after no posting from you for a week we would see the completed Patriot, three wagons, two carriages and a partridge in a pear tree.............bit of a shock to get this news.

Wishing you a full and rapid recovery.

David

Best of luck with the recovery, Ken, all of our 'inboxes' will be a little lighter and definately poorer whilst you're out of action.

Best wishes,

Ian.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi all. I'm very pleased with the post op progress. Thanks to being able to ditch the sling. I still have a few weeks of very limited movement of the left arm and physiology to get thing back to normal.

I have been able to slowly and gently do a bit on the WB happily.  Yesterday and today has seen the body on the Patriot underway.  Very slowly with plenty of rests.

This is it so far.

Managed a little more today before the ache in the shoulder started.   The superstructure is all bolt together so tomorrow I should  get the s/box wrapper, boiler & firebox bands fitted.:ok:

Happily I've achieved todays target and also fitted and soldered the s/box, boiler and firebox in place.  There is a small gap at the bottom of the s/box front to fill, it appears that the boiler looks the be a couple of mill short when compared to drawings.  Not a problem as the smoke deflectors will make that unnoticed.  Onwards tomorrow and very pleased with my recovery progress.  Must not get married away though, another three weeks before I can drive and get the arm movements back.
