Hi Ken, that’s a bit weird, the mixes are usually given in percent.  What’s the remaining 18%?

cheers

Simon

I tend to go for anything with 2% of silver (Ag) it seems to flow much better in 145C or 179C varieties. I managed to acquire a few reels before the lead-free ban.

Regards, Deano.

Hi Deano,

the “lead free ban” was a bit of a non event.

It’s my understanding that it’s not legal to build products for sale with leaded solder, but there’s no restrictions on what you do with it privately.  It’s also legal for repairs to older electronics.   You can still buy it ( Eg RS still sell it) and use i5 on your models.

I’ll have a look for the silver-bearing stuff  - thanks for the tip.

Taking my time, a bit more nibbling away at.  This kit is best described as an aid to scratch building the amount of it am having to do.

Thankfully the later ones under Taff Vales models are far and away better after their reworking of them.

Hi. Happy Easter to you all. Typical to have a beautiful Easter w/end and can't actually go anywhere.

Spent some time in the garden fence painting and inside decorating.<_<

I've still had some time on the WB on the Taff Vale loco.  I order a beackhead for it from NMRS Models early last week, sadly no sign of it as of now.  (They said it would be in the post last Tuesday) so not looking good.

As I'm doing this in GWR livery I think I will have to order a safety valve bonnet from Warren, the one in the kit is definitely wrong for GWR.

I will have to make washout plugs for it as well. Lots of details are not included in the kit, just a list of where you could obtain them from.

Here it is so far.

Finally got the Jubilee finished and ready for delivery.  Always nice kits to build from the Gladiator stable.

Onwards now with the Taff Vale K/L class.

The battle with the K\L Class os over. I am now waiting for the Backhead and HMRS transfer sheet to arrive, then the final finishing will be some weathering.

She runs very well with the tender pickups. I did not have enough room on the loco chassis to accommodate them with the dummy valve gear etc.

Now here's a weird looking oddity. It's actually a USA GE Boxcab. Introduced in the 1940's and can still be found working in sidings etc.

I have also been asked to anglicise it by adding UK buffer beams, buffers and 3 link couplings. That will be a challenging mod to say the least as she sits much lower on the track than the UK rolling stock.

Sir Douglas kindly offered the above drawing and is similar to what I had already done by looking at various kits offered by Judith Edge.

I did lift the body up by 1.5mm which brought the buffer centres level with the footplate which would have given much more strength should there have been a prototype for this oddity.

Here is the result. ((I have to do a little filling in before the final primmer coat.)

After doing a few jobs around the house I've now stared the Taff Vale Models ex Barry loco.  I'm a bit disappointed with the etches, I had hoped they were better than the Sharpe Stewart one but not really. The spacers were not all the same width so it was a case of choosing the best one and chopping all the others down. Then after assembly and test on the layout there was no chance of it going through the turnouts. It was a case of modifying the pony trucks and narrowing the front end of the frames to finally get it running along the layout without derailing the front and rear wheels.

I have stuffed the ash pan with lead and will also do the same with the side tanks.  Sprung wire is used on the pony trucks to press them down onto the track. The rear one is floating and the front one is swivels and floats. I will add pickups to them as well.

So tomorrow I will get the coupling rods done and hope they are OK when fitted.

Well that's the Taff Vale 2-4-2 boxed off except transfers and number plate.  It's been a bit of a challenge to build but has turned out OK in the end.

Thanks for all likes etc. Much appreciated.  Just started on the revamp of the kitchen. I'm guessing it will take all week as I'm stripping down all the units and doing a complete modern repaint on them. (Fed up with a boring wood finish).

Local B & Q are open for business selling anything you want. Just use the one way system around the store as in the supermarkets.:)

Possibly one of the cruelest posts ever made... :)
