Over the past few months I have been building the trial etches for some more CR wagon kits which I have designed for 2FS.  they have yet to be painted.

They have already been posted on the OMWB thread in the 2mmFS section here, but as they are scattered through that i thought it might be an idea to put them all together here.

The original dumb buffered version of the Dia 22 8T mineral wagon along with the later spindle buffered version.

2 1880 cattle trucks, the far one with the original open ends and the nearer one with them boarded in, a later modification. The three cattle pens behind were also on the trial etch sheet.  More work remains to be done on this part of Kirkallanmuir.

Finally, the centre door version of the 'bogie' and a Dia 15 8T dropside.  this latter shares the same underframe as the 8T open, but has been built with 2 shoe brake gear.  both kits can be built with either 2 shoe or single shoe brakes.

Hope these are of interest.

Are you going to be making any of them available to buy Jim?

They will be made available to 2MM Scale Association members allong with some other items in the same way as my earlier ones.  There were several issues with the dumb buffered version of the Dia 22 so I need to get another trail etch done of it.  There are some other items I want to design for Kirkallanmuir (locking table for the lever frame for one), so I will do them and put them and it on a sheet for PPD.  They will do smaller sheets than PEC, so not so much needed to fill it.  It takes a lot of 2mm scale etches to fill an A3 sheet!   :O

The wagons are looking good, have you any plans for any more?

I'm just being greedy!

Thanks for all the kind comments.     There are plenty more I would like to do the Dia 10 cattle truck and some 6-wheeled ones, for example.  Just look at some of those special purpose wagons in 'The Book'!  Trolley No 1. is just crying out to be modeled!

I should really be getting on with Kirkallanmuir, though, now that the weather is warming up and the garage is getting a little more comfortable to work in.

  • 3 months later...

The garden, holidays, family and other commitments have limited modelling time recently, but I've finally managed to get the trial etches finished and painted.

7T bogies in centre and off-set door types. These 2 will each get a substantial load of coal before they enter service.

1870 cattle trucks, as built with open upper ends and with ends boarded over.

And the final item is not a wagon;

The lettering on this is just a series of dots! :( (well, if you can paint 'CALEDONIAN RAILWAY' and 'WORDIE & CO' legibly in ½mm high letters, you're a better man than me!)

Wow. You printed a teabag!

Excellent effect.

Needs to be tried in 4mm ...

I doubt that a tea bag would be any use for 4mm. A single layer is only just big enough for a 21ft x 14ft one in 2mm! Printing on cigarette paper has been done with good effect. Perhaps that could be pre-stained by dipping it in tea first?
