It's cropped up in more than one topic in RMWeb Sometimes on diesel, sometimes on OHLE Can any class 43 control a class 91? Donington Road Posted August 9, 2020 Share Posted August 9, 2020 (edited) The ballast train with the crane intow is about to depart once the wagons have been checked by a staff member with a sophisticated piece of equipment. The first three wagons behing the engine are empty, the fourth is half empty and the rest are still full, so not that much has been used. How do I know how much is in them? By watching and listening to this chap walking the whole length of the train with the sophisticated equipment in his right hand. That's how it's done, just tap a piece of ballast against the side of the hopper, hollow sound it's empty, dull sound it's full. I wonder who came up with that idea? He did stop and go back to the front of the fourth hopper for a second opinion. The tamping machine which was kindly being looked after by Dave at Sandy then set off to help all the shovels at the new (half) junction. Temporary fishplates applied instead of welding. The ballast has yet to be packed. Crun's photo shows it after the tamper has been through. Tamping the plain track just before the junction. Tamping the diverging route. Crun Posted August 10, 2020 Share Posted August 10, 2020 I received this today: "A snippet of information for @Crun - the redundant headspan masts (for structure E127/14) north of the new OLE portal boom (E127/12A) near Cock Lane FB have now been removed. The same can also be said for the redundant headspan masts E128/02, E128/06 & E128/08; only the Up side mast for E128/04 remains as it still anchors the wire run using the crossover from the Down fast to the Down Spalding." 4 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's good news, especially the E127's as it will now give a better uncluttered photographic view looking south from Cock Lane footbridge. Donington Road Posted August 11, 2020 Share Posted August 11, 2020 Anyone care to speculate what might be happening with the signalling on the up line for Glinton Junction when approaching from the north. A new cabinet has recently been installed approximately 300ft to the north of Foxcovert bridge and safety fencing has been erected at the weekend. My assumption is that there is going to be a new signal here. Will it replace the existing one further towards Glinton Junction or will it be additional? Thank you Ian. I would assume a new signal (where the cabinet is) will have the feathers for the diverging junction. The original signal seems to be in no mans land, too close to the junction where it is. Slow work at Cock Lane, everyone seemed to be taking shade under the bridge. The temporary rail joint at Glinton Junction has been properly welded. It's a security device. Go anywhere near it and it sets off an alarm and then a voice (in what sounds like an Irish accent) warns you that Security has been informed.
