Some sort of train operated warning system?

Why both sides though, there is only an adjacent line on the eastern side.

They have been installed as part of the casting to the top of the concrete piling and look to be a permanent fixture regarding the fencing around them.  Never really spotted them before.

My guess is that they are something to do with checking the future integrity of the piling or monitoring ground water levels/pressure?

This is a cropped photo of mine that was taken on 15 July 2020, the first cast section on the west side.

Some photos from around Hurn Road and Lincoln Road this morning courtesy of Trackside ECML.

From Hurn Road footbridge we can see where the drainage sumps have been positioned marking the eventual route that the Up Stamford line will take to the left of the dive under.

Another channel has been cut for drainage, presumably for runoff of the A15 bridge.

A bit of progress in the north ramp.  Drainage is still being worked on.  The mud is being levelled and a gravel and sand base is being rolled in.

It is all a bit wet and muddy around the new Lincoln Road bridge.

Apparently Anglian Water are having problems with leaks to the new pipework.  Standpipes were running water off from the valves on Hurn Road and Lincoln Road.

The excavator was digging up this part of the road for some reason.

Looks like Trackside ECML was there a bit earlier than I was.

Not in any particular order today.

The trackbed in the east ramp is being laid on a plastic honeycomb ...

IMG-0096.jpg

The brickwork at Lincoln Road bridge is coming along, the south abutment is now completed.

IMG-9797.jpg

Whilst they are still working on the north face.

IMG-9798.jpg

IMG-9800.jpg

The land bridge across to the joint line has gone and been replaced by a ramp down into the trackbed area as noted by Trackside ECML/Donington Road. It is very wet underfoot.

IMG-9799.jpg

Meanwhile they are laying the track drains under the A15, the concrete platform at the base of the wall has been cut away on both sides of the cutting.

IMG-9801.jpg

They're now laying topsoil as the final cover on the cutting sides too.

IMG-9803.jpg

Back to Lincoln Road and a quick view looking south across the bridges.
IMG-9804.jpg

And they seem to have a water leak on the footpath towards Werrington, the water was bubbling up from under the tarmac ...

More photos from around Lincoln Road and Hurn Road this morning from Trackside ECML.

Still very wet under the new bridge, the ballast that was put down earlier has morphed in to a mud bath.

DSC_0938c.jpg.b727880e5108aac9a16ad4687cd628dc.jpg

At least the drainage is progressing towards the new bridge.  Judging by the chap in the trench near the A15 bridge the pipe work is quite deep here.

DSC_0942c.jpg.ed134a7308f910e5a9ea2f50e476248d.jpg

Quite a bit of progress this week on the north ramp.  A lot of sand has been laid and looking at the height of the drainage sumps an awful lot of ballast is going to be required to bring the level up to those.

I am indebted to my friend Trackside ECML for providing yet more photos.  One day soon I hope to be back in action taking my own.

It all looks rather a mess at the southern end of Lincoln Road.  The trench that was being dug the other day across the top of the water pipe was for telecoms, denoted by the green tape laid on top of the pipe.

DSC_0966c.jpg.7ec619febbb8f9d176b99719d8326ed1.jpg

Two new signposts and kerbing relaid.

DSC_0965c.jpg.91d6025cc87c07b2f7e5fa2fc9505b39.jpg

At Cock Lane quite a bit of progress has been made on shotcreting the cylindrical piles on the east side.  Also noted that some scaffolding has gone up on the Royal Mail roof, some lucky workers are going to have a grandstand view for a while.

After all the ballast, here comes the sand.  Is it for the dive under or is it for a beach to compliment any future Marholm Brook flooding.:jester:

Fun & Games on the ECML south of Posh Yesterday evening.

All trains were using the Hertford loop due to planned engineering work on the main line.

A train broke down near Bayford at all came to a grinding halt for virtually 2 hours.

For some reason both up & down trains were stopped.

Ah, that makes sense on the telecom cables, they cut through some whilst installing the water pipes.

As for the sand, with international travel being difficult at the moment this must be for Costa del North Bretton so that a beach holiday in a strange place can still be enjoyed by many.

It must be for the Fletton Quays beach alongside the new city council building...;) :dancing:

More photos taken today by Trackside ECML at Cock Lane.

As repored last week, a large pot hole had appeared in the haul road but as sand and ballast seemed to be in short supply to repair it someone had a light bulb moment and decided...........

image.png.6e34a0aed468626e4d42a826fdd88d0c.png

........to make it a water feature with protective fencing for any ducks that may take up residence.

The ballast continues to arrive...........

..........and a new sand pile has sprouted up to the left between the spoil heaps.

At the footbridge two lines of marker flags have been placed beginning from the post of the access gate.

This one coming across the area to the east of the footbridge.

An interesting  film to watch. I presume that most of the container trains will be using the new diveunder when it's finished, apart from the onesxheading ror Stamford. It shows the need for the project. I remember standing on the north end of the island platform at Peterborough  a few years ago and watching trains, to and from Ely, working theircway over the crossovers to get to the Sleaford lines.

Sorry about that Mick. No personal insult intended.

There's an interesting article on a model railway layout of Peterborough North Station in the March edition of the magazine that hosts this forum.

Yes, all those going north should be using the dive under.   It sometimes happens that congestion at Peterborough caused by unforseen circumstances can see freight from the south routed north on the Down Slow instead of going via the Joint Line.  The freight you saw on the Stamford line in video was a case in point.  It was returning to Heck Plasmoor and 99% of the time it goes via the Joint.  On this occassion it was routed north to go on the main line, the driver was obviously pleased as he would get home earlier.

I have just been looking at the above thread thanks Mick. Most enjoyable series of photographs. I even glimpsed a building very similar to my pre-lockdown office as well as the Great Northern Hotel and the Crescent Bridge. My new office, when built, will be at Fletton Quays and will overlook the line to Ely and beyond.

Done my, at present, weekly visit. Lots of change visually but little to report.

All of the pictures today are at Lincoln Road or the A15 starting with a view looking north across Lincoln Road bridge. It seems they are not too far from surfacing this and bringing it into use.

IMG-9806.jpg

The final bit of brickwork is going in place on the abutments, then they need to visually tie it in with the old bridge.

IMG-9807.jpg

We can see, next, that progress is well underway on the trackbed with the drains almost completed on the southern side.

IMG-9808.jpg

And on the other side of the bridge we can see the drains on the northern side are also making good progress. The only access to the site now is via the ramp down by the box, the ramp put in place last week is, as we can see in the previous picture, partly dug away as is that from Hurn Road. The excavator on the extreme right (we can just see its bucket) is loading spoil into dumper trucks for removal to the main site.

IMG-9810.jpg

Looking at Lincoln Road again for a moment there are lots of water valve 'information' posts in place and the valve access chambers are now all sitting in nice concrete plinths.

IMG-9809.jpg

Moving across to the A15 bridge area we can see that, in order to protect the trackbed already laid from soil contamination that they have laid a membrane for the dumper trucks etc to drive along. The dumper in the second picture was just reversing in to the passing area to allow a loaded dumper to leave.

IMG-9813.jpg

IMG-9812.jpg

And finally they are installing the permanent lighting under the A15. It looks vulnerable to vandalism to me. Mind you we, perhaps, need to persuade the sparkies to look at Cock Lane footbridge next.

After capturing one of our resident contributers here in action.

My good friend Trackside ECML turned around to capture these images from the A15 road bridge of the northern ramp to the dive under.  It was a nice white carpet, trying to keep the ballast clean from the dumpers taking spoil to the large heap near Hurn Road footbridge.

DSC_1122c.jpg.10ad259582063766143033befe976dac.jpg

Looking the other way, it seems it is only the brickies that are holding up progess of the trackbed through to the Glinton Junction section.

On to a couple of views of the southern approach to the new Lincoln Road bridge.
