Hi Who is the train company ( LD ) that are running test trains Kings X  to Edinburgh only stopping at Newcastle and Morpeth. They are to start a service later in the year. Is this a back door way of getting rid of GNER?

GNER?

That went years ago (2007 to be more precise)

All train "franchises" are now run on management contracts for the DfT until Great British Railways (a Government Holding Company) takes over

It's another open access operator (like Grand Central and First Hull Trains), rather than a management contract franchise/concession under DfT control. Again, it is a First Group operation, under the trading name of East Coast Trains (as Donington Road mentions, above). They will be using Class 803 Hitachi Inter-City Express Trains - fundamentally very similar to the Hull Trains Class 802s. They plan to run five (IIRC) return trips, per day, between the two capitals.

Wednesday 30th June

View from Lincoln Road bridge of newly prepared ground. In readiness for the arrival of more ballast for the coming weekend work?

Views from Hurn Road bridge. I could see people stood on the Cock Lane bridge. Has it not been closed to the public yet?

There should be two trains of track ballast arriving Saturday evening.

As for Cock Lane footbridge closure.  It was a false alarm.

TBH I can't see open access lasting in the era of "Great British Railways"

Would the Government really want to see custom creamed off their services?

Now that does look like my track laying!

Is one gentleman scratching his head as he looks at the kink?

Jonathan

Could be. Could also be on his mobile phone to summon some assistance, hence more troops visible in next two pics.

There was/is a nasty dip in the up line as it leaves the pointwork for the diveunder.

I wondered how the bogies on the 66's on the tracklaying train would have coped.

Looks, for all the world, like heat expansion to me.

Kev.

Comparing the two pictures above which are from a couple of days apart it certainly looks a possibility albeit helped by a slight curve in the cooler weather.

It was three years ago, six months before the orange army descended.

The Down Stamford now runs above Brook Drain South

Brook Drain South at the bottom, Werrington Brook through the sluice on the right, Marholm Brook coming in from the left and all going over the spillway under the footbridge into Brook Drain North.

Time flies! Must get out on the bike today and over the weekend. I hope to see and capture any new activity on Sunday especially.

The supports for the old temporary footbridge are being broken up at Lincoln Road.

It would have been nice to have had a railing put around them and the platform used by photograhers videoing trains.:jester:

The one on the Werrington side is still untouched.
