RMweb Premium melmerby Posted September 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 28, 2020 (edited) I wonder why they need solid panels in the dividing wall under the bridge? It's making it like a tunnel in a tunnel and awfully dark. I would have thought a good gauge mesh would have been better. They are accoustic panels Keith so the horse doesn't get spooked if it encounters a train passing by at the same time. I am being serious too. 1

Quite how it will cut through the roof of the tunnels I'm not sure. The box should be almost complete now. Jamie I thought they were going to lift the track and dig down to the level of the top of the box, push it through and cover it over. or did I I get that wrong? ECML will be lifted and then the line of the box will be excavated. The guide tunnels will then be opened down to guide rail level and the box jacked into place. The sides and top will then be infilled and the ECML relaid. 1 2
PenrithBeacon
I don't understand why a tunnel was cut only for it to be opened out later. I'd be grateful for an explanation, for there must be one.
RMweb Premium Richard E Posted September 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2020 Cutting a guide tunnel doesn't disrupt traffic on the ECML, excavating a cut and shut under the ECML and then casting the guide rails for the box section would mean a much longer closure of the main line. As it is it will be closed for around 9 days. 2

Donington Road
My roving reporter friend made a quick visit to Cock Lane this afternoon and sent me these photos of recent developments. The steps down into Brook Drain have been completed and the embankment netted. 6
Donington Road
Down at the southern end progress on the Up Stamford continues. Note the new rail which has been delivered over the weekend between the Stamford lines on the right. I also noticed some new rail at Hurn Road yesterday. 8
Donington Road
To the dive-under things have really changed. The girders across are being installed. The concrete slab continues towards Cock Lane footbridge. A lot of holes have been drilled in the sheet piling. To relieve water pressure behind? Top left, new hospitality suite? Work also being done on the new Up Stamford opposite Werrington Junction. Edited September 29, 2020 by Donington Road 6

Where the diveunder turns to go under the ECML, I'm surprised at the height of the concrete retaining walls. I would have expected them to be below ground level once it turns, as it is, it gives the impression that the up Stamford will need to climb over it.
RMweb Premium Richard E Posted September 29, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2020 Hmmm - your roving reporter was out and about a little later than I was. Work continues on the roadbed for the final location of the up Stamford. A slightly different view of the dive under with the beams in place, note the dumper dropping into the access way to remove spoil. And just how far the concrete raft has progressed towards Cock Lane bridge. Moving across to Lincoln Road I came across this noise level monitoring station. And the roadbed has been dug down to what could well be foundation level at Glinton Junction. Whilst at Lincoln Road bridge itself a lot of soil has been moved and the piles are being exposed. On the bridge itself they are now building the shuttering around the side walls of the bridge, the height of them is similar to the existing bridge, a bigger stepladder is needed here as well. 6

It will climb a bit, much like the new alignment has done on the left of the photo to clear the access bridge. Telephoto lenses do distort things a little and what is a gradual rise virtually undetected by eye, can be seen as mountainous terrain on a photo. 1

I have looked at the site with my old laptop. It has Windows 7 and IE 11. Still not able to see photographs or YouTube videos. I have changed the theme from the 2020 to 2021 to no avail. I have placed my problems on the New Forum Software thread and await an answer. New theme works well and looks good on Windows 10 laptop and Android mobile phone. I can get it to work on my old laptop using Google Chrome. Edited October 1, 2020 by Crun
RMweb Premium Richard E Posted October 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2020 Feeling bored today so went to have a look. Very little change at Cock Lane so I'll concentrate on Lincoln Road. Firstly the bridge deck has been cast. The acoustic walling is complete, the posts are still missing washers and in a couple of places the nuts are still clear of the post! They are continuing to dig out the approach. However the view towards the dive under has changed a lot. And I got all arty farty as well ... 5
RMweb Premium melmerby Posted October 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2020 Not convinced by that "acoustic" wall as a means to stop spooking the horses. There's a very nice acoustic reflector called concrete above and to the side where sound will probably be bounced off with little attentuation. IMHO it needs to at least go right to the top. RMweb Premium Richard E Posted October 1, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2020 Walking under the A15 the effect of the acoustic barrier is quite noticeable.
