No photos or video. What was the cost of the VIP ticket? Don't know what rating they have. Mammoet have supplied the jacks and other equipment but I cannot find anything on their website to indicate they are working on this site. https://www.mammoet.com/ There was no cost involved with the planned visit, a very generous freebie. Morgan Sindall contacted me out of the blue through my YouTube channel. I occasionally give a business type card out if someone is genuinely interested in what I am photographing or videoing. The contact came from someone who must have held onto one of those cards which has the channels email address on it.

When I can make myself get out on my bike I find it helps. I too find Christmas stressful for a variety of reasons. I hope we can all get out the other side of the 25th into a less bad place.

Chin up both of you, we have got a lot to look forward to next year. Two new junctions, a new overbridge view and a four track Joint Line (although only for a short stretch to Glinton Junction), so hopefully a lot more photo opportunities. No daylight today and very heavy rain so a visit to Cock Lane tomorrow to view the flooding of Marholm Brook should be interesting.

A1 closed due to flooding near Peterborough, A47 has reopened in city centre. Time to get the mountain bike out for my cross country rides through Ferry Meadows etc. There are currently multiple issues across the rail network due to excessive rainfall today, consequently causing flooding in several areas. The most noticeable routes impacted is the MML, with EMR suspending all its intercity services until end of service. As well as on the ECML between Kings Cross and the North, with flooding in multiple areas and electrical supply problems. Issues reported on multiple other lines, too. RMweb Premium melmerby Posted December 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 24, 2020 Yes, fairly widespread flooding of roads & rails from the southern half of Wales, through Central England to the Eastern counties. Warwickshire, Worcestershire & Herefordshire are all badly affected, with the 4 main rivers all over their banks. On the Severn & Avon, the locks have all but disappeared under the floodwater.
Donington Road
I have been feeling unwell today so have not been able to get out as planned. Fortunately my good friend Trackside ECML came to the rescue and managed to get some photos of the flooding of Marholm Brook after yesterdays heavy rain. It is only a small stream, so according to the Environment Agency there was no problem putting in a restrictive pipe to let the water flow to Werrington Brook. Perhaps now they will be having second thoughts as their idea is obviously not working. There is also a small video clip which can be viewed here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SgIxvmynh6z2DCQwCJ0VeLLuyoP4bQ_w/view?usp=sharing The car park around the Morgan Sindall offices is also under water. It's a similar virus to covid and spreads in the same way. Incidentally I saw on the news that problems with other seasonal viruses (e.g. flu) are considerably down on the usual, thought to be due to more hand sanitising and mask wearing.

The only contact I've had is with the wife, although she is looking fine, perhaps her wearing a mask would have helped. I blame Trackside ECML breathing too heavily down the phone. 1

This was the old set up. The southern Brook Drain from Bretton that is now covered by the Stamford Lines coming in from the bottom right and going off over the weir into Brook Drain north (right edge). Marholm Brook coming in left centre. Surplus water would flow off into Brook Drain north with no restrictions. This photo has been taken from the footbridge over Brook Drain north in the previous photograph. The old automatic sluice gate that allowed excess water to flow into Werrrington Brook. The southern Brook Drain now outflows through this large culvert into the newly created Brook Drain north. Marholm Brook can now only flow into a sump through a 200mm pipe, excess water has nowhere to go now. The inlet to Werrington Brook. The new inlet on the left with the restricted pipe. 2 1

RMweb Premium Richard E Posted December 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 24, 2020 Looking at that it needs a spillway into the North Drain for times of heavy rain/excess water flow. One problem is the new 200mm pipe runs into a culvert which is under the Stamford lines so changing that is possible but is likely to be rather disruptive to the railway I suspect unless they break out a TBM. 1

Putting a spillway into Brook Drain much as it was before would be the most sensible option. The Environment Agency wanted to control the amount of water entering Werrington Brook as they have turned it into a wildlife friendly stream with riffles, but they have not really thought about the consequences futher upstream. Messing with nature is not always a good idea. Found another old photo.
RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted December 24, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 24, 2020 I imagine some of those involved may be regretting taking notice of those who rejected a flyover on aesthetic grounds. Take care. And try to have a happy Christmas. I believe brandy can help! Jonathan
