Darjeeling Railway - Some scenic thinking

HI all,

One of the things I have been asked to do is a background for the station of Darjeeling itself.

There isn't space available on the model as proposed to have the engine shed modelled.

So - to give some impression of what may  be done I was asked if I could do a graphic background.

Again - this is an image file exported from the drawing program.

Thoughts, ideas, improvements?

Thanks

ps - may have more on this aspect of the layout as things develop.

Hi all,

Having got the basic outline - time to add a bit more detail....

How have I arrived at the drawing(s) shown?

There are some known measurements which I have used to scale the overall length and height.

For example....

The wheelbase and height of a B Class Loco

The length and height of some of the coaches.

So, it was a case of extrapolate as much as possible based on these things.

That gets me to the stage of the first drawing I've shown.

Moving on to the next stage....

A few adjustments were made to the initial drawing.

I realised that I had used the height of the loco and carriages incorrectly from ground level.

Only problem is...

The tracks in the shed are not at ground level!

That takes us to adding a few textures to the drawing to see how it looks.

That's where we are for now.

Next thing will be to print it out and see how it looks against a backscene (that I've yet to make!).

More once I get going again.

Thanks

Hi Adhip,

Any photo sources are useful!

The initial idea on this thread has progressed a bit - I now have drawn up the full engine shed ready to print as card model with plastic details.

however, I've been concentrating on other things recently but that will change over the Xmas week - I hope.

Photos of the current coaching stock with new air conditioning fitted are a gap in my photo source file.

Also interested in photo of Rangtong station buildings.

Thanks

Phil H

Hi Phil,

Unfortunately, last time when I visited Darjeeling, the Hill Cart Road was closed due to landslide hence, I was not able to take the photos of Rangtong. Moreover, I have not encountered the AC Coach.

Regards,

Adhip.

Hi all,

Well - I'm back to the DHR stuff - again!

The light box viewing project with the engine shed at the rear was completed some time ago and handed over without any problems - 3 days before Covid spoiled the exhibition circuit for us all.

Now the guy has come back to me asking about other stuff he woould like to model or have modelled for him!

The original shed scene is to get extended out toward the station itself - so I'm just getting myself together to identify what is/is not possible with an extra  33cm of width and to be the same length as the shed scene.

In the meantime?

I'm back on with some rolling stock and motive power builds for myself - I've deceded to get a bit further on with Rangtong as I already have the baseboards sat in one of my sheds.

Time for getting that project onto it's own thread!

Will try and do more updates as I go, but I'd rather be doing the modelling.......

Thanks

Phil H
