The train just happens to be standing there 1

RMweb Gold Argos Posted March 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2020 I'm just on the train from Leeds to Manchester and looking at some very familiar scenes. It has to said Network Rail has done a cracking job recreating this layout full size! 3

Ha, no, but I'd like to think my comments are taken in the light-hearted way they are intended. This is a stunning layout, in many ways, and I wish I did have the space, time and finances to achieve even a small percentage of what Simon has. 5
Popular Post HeatonLodge40
This week has seen plenty of head scratching. The viaduct has now been re-covered with DAS, scribed and painted. I’m not 100% happy with it but there’s some work on it still to do. Whats taken a lot of time is fitting it onto the flat ‘dropped’ frame and aligning it accurately. It sits on a bed of cork which itself is glued to polystyrene sheet. The original wooden base made the whole frame too heavy hence the change to polystyrene. Once sealed, the resin will be poured on to create the river. 34
Popular Post HeatonLodge40
Work continues apace on the far western end of the layout. With all the track now laid it’s painted before dummy fishplates added. Plenty of trackside detail to add yet although the laborious concrete trunking has been made and laid. Started ballasting today.. Meanwhile the banks for the river bridge have now been installed. Disused girder bridge next to it will be fixed in place shortly. On another note my helpful software chaps have constructed a mobile cabinet for the Digikeijs & Digitrax hardware. One screen is touch control and shows the positions of points & trains, the other will show the train arrivals board which is displayed to the public. In amongst all this madness at least I’m isolated in the basement 27
RMweb Gold Mick Bonwick Posted March 19, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 19, 2020 I still fail to comprehend how you manage to achieve so much in such short timeframes. I think you have a secret army that comes out at night and does most of it for you . . . . . . . . . To put things into perspective for you, I have managed to lay (that means glue down) 4 pieces of Peco code 75 track today. That's 4 yards. In a day. With soldered droppers, though! 2

I guess the more you do the quicker you get at it.! Soldering droppers onto rail lengths is mind numbing. I solder two pairs per section of rail and used to drill a 2mm hole for the droppers through the board. I soon learnt that invariably you often need to move the track more than you think to align it correctly, which means making the holes bigger. So now I just drill huge 20mm holes for the droppers then fill them with clay afterwards. Works a treat. 6 6 2
