So I have a bit of news too..

Since the Covid crisis doesn’t seem to be going away soon, the plan is to begin live streaming footage from HLJ towards the end of the year.
This live streaming will initially replace the layout going out to the public until things return to some semblance of normality.

All streaming will be high quality, with multiple cameras at various locations.

This will include a ‘Come trainspotting at Heaton Lodge Junction’ series with the fixed camera locations at multiple points and will live stream for 4/5hrs on particular dates.

Additionally there will also be a ‘How to’ series on the scenic techniques I’ve learnt, to cover static grass, realistic road construction, with the emphasis on speed but producing ultra realistic results.

Other episodes will cover ‘speed’ weathering, constructing wagon loads and much more.

As some may know Heljan is sponsoring Heaton Lodge Junction and as such all new Heljan O gauge models will be featured on the layout (before they hit the shops) pulling heavy trains, being reviewed and tips on weathering them.

All this will be scheduled in advance so it’s possible to pick and choose what you wish to see.

I’ll keep those interested posted on here.

Back to the present and I mentioned earlier the Dive Under tunnel progress.

This video ‘Lights at the end of the Tunnel’ was created by software specialist Jonathan and gives a taste of what’s to come. Enjoy

Super stuff Simon. One suggestion if I may please - how about a divider between the two tracks in the dive-under so that you don't see the lights of an approaching train on the "wrong" track?

Thanks for the suggestion although that is already the case.
The tunnel is about 35ft long and a lined divider covers the first 10ft.

Cos the tunnel is on a gentle left curve I think that’s why it gives the impression you mentioned

Actually having looked again you’re right .. I’ll have to extend the divider

What sound module / speaker combination have you fitted in the 9F? On video at least, it seems to lack volume, and in particular the bass of the real thing, whereas the diesel locos come over exceptionally realistic in terms of sound.

Hi Andrew

The 9F has the standard set up fitted by 55H who built it. I don’t think the speakers are as large as those fitted in the diesels.

To be fair the 9F does sound pretty good in the flesh - the whistle especially so.

However the smoke unit has packed up so it’s off for a new one soon..

Watching the videos just makes me want to see it more and more in the flesh. Got a lovely suprise when the 9F emerged from the tunnel!!!! Would have been a proper tingling moment if Duchess of Hamilton was on the front of the train instead!!!

Morning guys. A full weekends live viewing of Simon George's Heaton Lodge Junction 'biggest model railway in Britain', with manufacturer interviews, new product announcements from Heljan, some ideal weekend viewing :-)

I don't know if it's just me, but the quality is very poor.

Breaking up, blocky, jerky, sound, no sound.... it really looks like a bandwidth issue.

I was looking forward to this too.

I really hope things improve.

I was on the live feed.

Just tried again. It's got worse. Sound of someone talking but completely impossible to understand. And the cameraman is clueless. Making me travel sick!

Sorry to be critical as I was looking forward to this. But it really is unwatchable.

Being brought up in a house by the lineside on the climb up to Standedge Tunnel, the sound of that 37 slipping brought Goosebumps up!

Excellent stuff!

(I think 37425 is going to have problems with its handbrake!)

I'm sorry but this is completely unwatchable. Such a shame.

Give 'em a break, the bandwidth or signal issues may be out of their immediate control. The perils of being live. Grumbling and being negative is somewhat churlish; try being supportive and understanding.

Excuse me? Why do you choose to pick on me? Others have posted on the same subject.

My comment was purely factual and you will note (though you chose to omit it from your reply), that I also said it was such a shame.

I wasn't grumbling, nor was I being negative, purely factual in the hope they would pick up on it and hopefully make improvements rather than carrying on unaware.

Frankly AY, it is YOUR attitude that stinks. An apology is called for.

yes but it’s a thin line between churlish moaning and useful feedback.
