2mm Supermeet - 25th June 2016

Popped over this afternoon to the event which has a massive entertainment per square layout metre foot; top work everyone.

Laurie Adams' shunting tractor (you'll only ever believe how bonkers it is if you get to see under the boards) is quite brilliant; he kindly let me have a go operating it and all went OK until I went off the edge of the world. The most fun I've had operating anything for a long, long time; and I was still rubbish at shunting properly, trickier than it looks.

A study in concentration;

Richard Caunt's model of British Oak, inspired by the version in the 2mm Beginners Guide. Richard has taken it a step further by modelling the screens and also making loading and unloading of coal possible.

Some great pictures there. Nice to see more of Framsden. Great to see the progress on Modbury. In fact all the layouts looked good (kicks oneself for missing the meet). First John Greenwood With his travelling crane, now Laurie's tractor, what next? A working horse anyone?

Laurie should have done the shunting horses but he shied away from it

Rydes Vale, by Bert Grooves and his father, had working shunters. The relevant one flipped up his shunting pole when the electro magnet was activated to disengage the AJ couplings.

Found the meet well worth the ride up from Bristol and I am a 4mm modeller!

As well as the shunting tractor on Yeovil Town, the discharging hoppers on British Oak were well worth a close look.

A very interesting show.

Ah yes I remember seeing that at Central Hall now you have reminded me. There was a bit of a wait to get close enough to see. Stuart Hine was manning the 2mmSA stand.

Sad that I couldn't be there, it looks to have been a great show with some very interesting layouts and displays.

Demo'ing 2mm to the LYRS went ok though. May have convinced one N gauger who's already doing a layout in finetrax that he could ease into 2FS. Otherwise some good models on display in several scales up to G3.
