Oxford Rail – sound options for Adams Radial and Dean Goods, further 7-plank PO liveries and announcement of Carflat wagon.

Further new 2016 releases: Additional variants for the Adams Radial and Dean Goods including sound, plus new liveries on proven favourites, together with a new wagon, which all adds up to Oxford Rail delivering the goods during this year.

At the beginning of 2016 Oxford Rail announced the introduction of the Dean Goods as well as a fine selection of new livery variants for the Adams Radial. Further to that announcement Oxford Rail are pleased to declare their intention to produce the Adams Radial in the black Southern Railway ‘Sunshine’ livery with the model being produced in two variants, DCC Ready and fitted with Sound at an RRP of £199.95. Additional to this locomotive the previously announced ‘East Kent Railway’ and the Maunsell Olive Green ‘Southern’ Radials will now also be available with Sound. The sound decoders used are the LokSound V4.0 supplied by the recognised industry specialists, ESU. Similarly, the three previously announced Dean Goods models will also be available with or without Sound. Availability of all these newly announced Adams Radials and the Dean Goods models with an (RRP of £209.95 for sound) are scheduled for release during the third and fourth quarter of this year.

The first model that Oxford Rail produced was the ubiquitous 7 plank private owner wagon. Since its launch this wagon has carried numerous private owner liveries and such has been the demand that a further four are to be introduced during the third quarter of this year. These four wagons will carry the names of companies probably long gone but as far as Oxford Rail are concerned, not forgotten and are ‘Wigan Coal & Iron’, ‘Fulton’, ‘Phillips George & Co’ and finally ‘Barton & Co.’ However, after Nationalisation many private owner wagons were absorbed into the newly formed British Railways consequently Oxford Rail will be introducing a selection of BR 7 plank ex PO wagons this Autumn with an RRP of £9.95 The selection will include a solo grey BR ‘pristine’ wagon together with an equivalent three pack selection all with different running numbers. Also available will be ‘weathered’ variants carrying different numbers from those of the ‘pristine’ models and will include a solo ‘weathered’ BR Grey wagon and a three pack ‘weathered’ assortment. Staying with open wagons but of the 4 plank variety, two new additions of Oxford’s diminutive North British PO wagon will make an appearance towards the end of this year, carrying the names of ‘Lothian Coal Co., Newbattle’ and ‘United Collieries, Glasgow’.

Finally, Oxford Rail is pleased to announce that later this year they will be launching three variants of the BR Carflat wagon based on diagram 1/088 with an RRP of £29.95. The three versions will include a Carflat as it would have appeared straight from the fabricators, a worn and much used variant and finally a version carrying the distinctive BR Motorail livery. Further details will emerge over the following months but it is intended that the models will be supplied without motor vehicles, although no doubt suitable cars will be found elsewhere in the Oxford Diecast range!

Asked about their latest announcements Tim Mulhall, Oxford Rail spokesman responded by saying, ‘Being the new boys in this great hobby we are continually listening and responding to what our customers are asking from us while at the same time offering our own thoughts and ideas which seem to be well received.’ Asked about what future models Oxford Rail had planned he replied, ‘Our plans are quite extensive but we believe that the time delay between making an announcement and the models becoming available should be measured in single digit months rather than multiples of years so watch out for further announcements in due course.’

Kind of makes sense. They might even sell some 1970s-era 00 Oxford Diecast cars to go with it.  Better than the plastic monstrosities that Hornby used to offer with their carflat many years ago.

If I was being naughty, I'd make some kind of specious "yawn, nothing for me here" comment, but won't and hope others don't.  I'm sure someone will be quite excited by it.

I'm interested to see the details of the non-BR 7 and 4 plank wagons in due time.

"These four wagons will carry the names of companies probably long gone but as far as Oxford Rail are concerned, not forgotten and are ‘Wigan Coal & Iron’,...."

Long gone since 1930 when it was merged, with other companies, to form the Lancashire Steel Corporation, the coal interests being part of a subsidiary company, the Wigan Coal Corporation.

And here was me wondering what RTR coaches I needed to cut up to model the various motorail services through carlisle in 1974. And with a Q1 2017 release, I don't even need to wait that long, excellent!

I shall await with great interest.

Regards

Matt

Looks like I am cancelling my plain EKR Adams and ordering the sound one instead. Nice one Oxford.

I like the way they are offering sound across all their loco offereings now.

And of course the Car flats plus mineral wagons.

AAARGGGGHHHH! Carflats...... so obvious an idea it should have smacked me on the neb! Genius and what a boon for those 60s 70s 80s modellers who want their holiday trains to gain a little pizzaz! Congrats Oxford. Another sure fire winner IMHO

Congrats on the Carflat wagon Oxford...!! Whilst not my era, it sounds good.

Looking forward to seeing the Lothian Newbattle 4 Plank as well. Now my Harburn Hobbies Newbattle 7 Plank will have a wee lil sister...!! :)

Er...where are they getting the sounds for the Adams Radial from? IIRC, it hasn't steamed in many a year.

That thought has crossed my mind too ... but on the flip side, unless it sounds like an A4 or a Class 31 then there will be few people to say it sounds wrong...

More product announcements... won't be anything for me... have everything i need for my era/area....  Carflats!! The thing i do need but had forgotten about - oh yes I will be taking a handful of these when available (possibly a large handful...).  Oh and I'll need a whole load more cars to populate them.  And Oxford are producing an increasing range of 70's/80's cars.  Pure genius - not only an untapped seam of sales but generating market for your other products.  Co-ordinated range extends beyond just model railways it seems.  Well done Oxford and seems i won't have to wait too long either.

The only time I never mention Carflats, even in JEST!!!!

That's the penultimate item of RTR needed to model the Waverley route convincingly in its final decade.  Two doz. required here, cheers!

I mean, how irresistible is this:

Just a small point why would anyone buy a pack of three wagons when three bought separately is less money?

A whole 10p! As speculation, it might be the only way to get different running numbers - transfers would probably be more than 10p for two wagons :-)

People who buy the Preserved LSWR version must think it has!

Nothing here for me, either, but that does not matter. I am more than content with the 4-plank, LNER cattle wagon and 2 of the Dean Goods.  What matters is that Oxford goes from strength to strength and continues to fill some interesting gaps.

A Dean Goods in pre 1906 livery would have been good, to save me having to get out the Indian Red paint and knock it about a bit. I could be tempted by a couple of ex PO wagons for my 1950s OO layout though.

I am not one to criticise release announcements but I really cannot see why both makers of the Adams 0415 are avoiding the SR Maunsell green livery in favour of the short-lived Bulleid black one. Yes, the locos underwent changes throughout their lives but when did a few detail inaccuracies stop a major manufacturer from offering different liveries?

Its wonderful to see another company entering Model railway production & with such gusto.

No overly long waiting times for products to arrive.

Whether we all see something of interest in their product list doesn't matter.

All that matters is that its shaking up the existing companies & keeping them on their toes which can only be good for us modellers.

Well done Oxford  :imsohappy:

Very nice; a damn sight easier that building one, speaking as someone who's tried. Don't forget that, off-season, the Motorail-liveried ones would be found on trade-car traffic. They didn't only run as block trains, either; I've seen photos of a single wagon in a mixed west-bound freight in the West Country, loaded with something like:-

A55 (?) van

Maxi or 1800

Minivan

Marina

I've also seen another photo, somewhere in the West Country, of several wagons carrying brand-new Escort-type vans in BR livery.

Have always thought that was a given for Oxford! Brilliant news, but what am I going to do with those redundant Mk1s I was saving now?

Oh yes.... BSO and BFK of course....

Both of which ran in Motorail trains IIRC

Unless Oxford use this chassis to get there first of course....
