Salmotrutta
And of course, there's the British Lard Marketing Board. They're young... they're in love... they eat lard. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!

Derekstuart
Sorry Jason, but you are quite incorrect. Department of/ Ministry of was the traditional term until comparatively recently. Where do you think that Canada took the term from? France? I assumed that our "recent" change to "for" instead of traditional "of" was as a result of your Southern neighbour, the US. Nobody in North America ever uses the term "Department for." That is entirely British. I feel like I've just passed some kind of BritTest by knowing that.... In Canada we have "Department of" and "Ministry of," but usually it's just avoided. We have the agency/department name followed by "Canada," such as "Revenue Canada" and "Transport Canada." The biggest ministries are Beer Canada, Moose Canada and Hockey Night in Canada.... -Jason
RMweb Premium Ian J. Posted August 30, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 30, 2016 Well, the 'Department for Culture, Media and Sport' is a 'Dept. for...', but it's otherwise known as the 'Ministry of Fun'
RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted August 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2016 Does the general public use "Department for" yet or do they still call it the "Ministry"? Are cabinet ministers now Department Heads? How about the Prime Department Head?
Derekstuart
It is a relatively new department. If you delve into antiquity, also known as the pre-97 department changes, most departments or ministries were known as 'of'. Working in transport I remember the government announcing cut backs whilst at the same time announcing the (expensive) change of name from Dept. of Transport to Dept. for transport. Lord knows how many millions that cost them. BTW I am not making any political comments about the useless shower that won in 1997 or the useless shower that lost in 1997 or the useless shower that didn't stand a chance of winning or the useless shower that had only a few seats to start with. The whole sodding lot of them are a waste of time. Well, the 'Department for Culture, Media and Sport' is a 'Dept. for...', but it's otherwise known as the 'Ministry of Fun'
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted August 31, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 31, 2016 I like to think that the rebranding of the Department of Transport was an example of subliminal genius as DafT is just the perfect name for it.
Derekstuart
It was said that they were going to be called the Team With Affection (for) Transport Specialists, until someone spotted that the acronym was a very close description for most government departments and they were worried that they might have been assumed to have replaced the whole government. Of course this might just be an internet myth. I like to think that the rebranding of the Department of Transport was an example of subliminal genius as DafT is just the perfect name for it. mikeharvey22
In the early days of BR's TOPS there were "occasional" gltches which meant that staff had to go to the back-up which had the acronym BOTTOM. Back on to the old method.

JSpencer
So 2 DMUs for realtrack (one a sought after 80s design, the other photographed under modern catenary) a new wagon for revolution and a loco with a new partner of a prototype not done in mass produced RTR before (hinting maybe done in RTR by a cottage industry). Personally The DMUs and wagon might be out of my time frame or scale (meh!) but I am dead curious on the loco. The "wonder why no one did it before" thing. I feel that it will be some interesting experimental prototype like a W1, Fell, turbmotive etc.... Of course if it is something that needs a scan, then we could be looking at a pre grouping item, and I have a long list.

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted November 24, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 24, 2016 Amazingly we found a picture of Realtrack's two new models running together. For once this is actually a genuine image of the forthcoming projects. Both will be a welcome addition to our new "in-build" club layout. Cheers, Mick
Derekstuart
I take it your new "in build" layout would be based on an area typically running 156s then. Both will be a welcome addition to our new "in-build" club layout. Cheers, Mick EDIT: Misread comment in newsletter. Clearly a 156 (1980s- just) coupled to one of those imported privatisation era tin cans.As for the loco- didn't someone speculate 89? So 2 DMUs for realtrack (one a sought after 80s design, the other photographed under modern catenary) a new wagon for revolution and a loco with a new partner of a prototype not done in mass produced RTR before (hinting maybe done in RTR by a cottage industry).Personally The DMUs and wagon might be out of my time frame or scale (meh!) but I am dead curious on the loco. JSpencer
True the 89 is the only experimental prototype not yet done that you can still scan it (edit, ok there is a former gas turbine machine converted to an AC electric). And.... the 89 has been done by the cottage industry in RTR form by Silverfox (no longer available).
