Scotrail HSTs - what formation?

IIRC plug doors can be either sliding or pivot out on a sort of frame - the second type is like that fitted to modern Stagecoach express coaches where the door opens a touch, then swings out and back. This type is simpler but requires room inside for the pivoting frame to stow safely.

The sliding type opens out a touch, then slides back on a runner fitted to the bodyside.

From what i've read, the challenge is not in the sliding part, but the closing/locking part - making sure the door docks correctly and snugly so the locking system works and there are no draughts/water ingress

So no TGS then?

No, no TGS will be present in the sets. The Guard will be relocated to a "crew compartment", presumably a sort of Train Manager's Office, in the catering vehicle (Trailer First Catering/TFC).

Does the TGS have a hand brake for the train? Or is that not required on an HST as it's not really hauled stock? If it does I guess that'll be installed in the TFC.

Really looking forward to these. Will have to start saving the pennies to buy some base models to convert. Whoever makes a OO conversion kit for the new style doors shall receive much custom.

There's a handbrake control in both power car cabs and I believe also in the former guard's compartments in the power cars. I think I'm correct in saying there's also a handbrake control in each trailer vehicle? Some sort of cupboard in one/both vestibules? Could be talking a load of rubbish on that last bit, so don't quote me on that! ;)

The second type is known as a swing plug door, and appears to be operated by rotating a vertical pole inside the train to which the doors are attached by arms.  I think 158s have this type, although most of the mechanism is hidden behind covers. Sliding plug doors are more common, but when used on trains don't have an external bodyside runner (I think it's on the inside of the door instead).

Re no TGS, no doubt some provision will be made as to the location of the emergency equipment i.e. the new crew compartment. HST powers don't all have a parking brake control in the former Guards area, late build have them in the cab and clean air compartment.

Wondering if anyone has details of the current HST sets with power car, trailer numbers & liveries?

Latest Mk.3 formations I have are

Unrefurbished passenger sets, most still in FGW dynamic lines blue, a few have lost the stripes, those in GWR green are highlighted.

HA01 - 41124 42256 42255 44029

HA02 - 41144 42295 42301 44039

HA03 - 41104 42208 42206 44066

HA04 - 41130 42325 42267 44032

HA05 - 41022 42030 42010 44010

HA06 - 41158 42200 42129 44086

HA07 - 41010 42012 42013 44004

HA08 - 41180 42268 42296 44024

HA09 - 41146 42300 42299 44040

HA10 - 41135 42279 42280 44035

HA11 - 41136 42207 42047 44015

HA13 - 42209 42558 42269 42574 (training use only)

Refurbished sets, ScotRail Intercity livery

HA24 - 42343 42559 42183 40604

HA25 - 42045 42562 42292 40602

HA26 - 42046 42561 42004 40601

Power cars swap too frequently so don't record those against the sets but still a mix of FGW blue and ScotRail. Both can appear on the unrefurbished sets but only the ScotRail ones can be used on the refurbished sets.

Wow, Thank you very much Simon. Your lists are excellent and I under stand that the PCs change frequently!

Best regards

HA07 worked the 0939 Queen St-Aberdeen this morning (Wed 27th March) with Power Cars 43021 (leading) and 43145. The TGS was the leading coach. Interestingly, the same 4 coaches were together in 1981, in 253004 !
