RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted August 7, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 7, 2016 When I made the Penmaenpool signals, the view I had of the front of the signal is not clear, it's either over exposed or bleached as the arm is very light in colour. The rear view shows a black stripe, so I assumed it would have a corresponding white strip on the front. I'm afraid it rather exposes my lack of knowledge of GW signalling. Once we find a decent view we'll correct it if necessary. Regards Tony Unless it was incorrectly painted the front of the arm would be red but there would be a black stripe on the back - that was the standard colouring for Backing Arms (and the later style of subsidiary arms as well - even 'though they had horizontal the white lines on the front). If the backing arm had been replaced by a 3 foot arm (as happened in some renewals in BR days after Backing Arms had been discontinued in new work and renewals) then it would have a white stripe on the front of the arm - but of course no holes in the arm.
