Diesel Dayz
When the list of layouts went up on the notice board for the MMRG show this October I volunteered to exhibit a depot layout. Not a problem I said, even though I hadn't even started building the darned thing, there's plenty of time! Fast forward six months! Although I've got the boards, track, stock etc, what I haven't got is the time to build it. You would have thought that taking early retirement last December would enable me to use the hours that had been taken up by work. Err no! All those little jobs that kept being put off suddenly come to the fore. Her indoors seemingly finding another endless list of other little jobs that need doing suddenly you realise that there just aren't enough hours in the day! Anyway. There I was having a browse on eBay and George Street Stabling Point 2 was for sale. Now, I'd seen this layout at the MMRG Derby exhibition in 2010 and for me it ticked all the boxes. It was (a) Diesels and (b) a Depot. So I put a bid on. Needless to say I won! So I went to Leeds yesterday to pick it up. Had a natter over a coffee with it's owner Mark and it was in the car heading for Derby. The layout needs a fiddle yard building and, after talking with Richard (Old Bruce) and Alex (Lochnagar), decided on a few subtle changes. However still can't decide whether to backdate it to BR Blue or leave it as modern image and use my stock off Friarsgate. Watch this space!!

Diesel Dayz
Made a start. Scraped off the backscene (above the wall) and have ordered a Photo id backscene to replace it. Have also removed all the Freightliner signs from the shed etc. I dug out some of my BR Blue stock as you can see from the photos

Diesel Dayz
Blimey can't believe it was July that I last posted!! Time for an update! So here goes. Decided on a name change. Removed the old vinyl's and had some new ones made. The layout is now called SLACKS LANE STABLING POINT. I settled on BR Blue circa 1974 with a Western Region flavour. I've took a bit of a liberty in including some loco's that are slightly outside the chosen time period as they had all been withdrawn by '74. So, yes there are classes 22, 35 and 42's! Anyway I've altered the back scene, added some static grass, changed the LED's in the shed, added a yard light and a loco wash. Slacks Lane was due to be exhibited at The Little Layout Company's show in September, but, a problem with the fiddle yard prevented it from going. It hadn't been built! I'd asked my brother in law to build it, but, pressure of work had meant he'd not started it and it still wasn't ready in time for the Mickleover show! Cue the Benny Hill show music as a frantic build began and I completed the fiddle yard the night before the show! Phew! I'm pleased to say that Slacks Lane ran faultlessly over the entire weekend. I have got two more shows for this year: 5th November at the Silk Mill in Derby followed by the Weston on Trent show. Here's a few pictures taken at the Mickleover show. 250BOB
Hi Alan Looks really good.......wished I could have made it to Mickleover at the weekend to see it......but I went to the Wigan show on Saturday, and another day of trains was out of the question I'm afraid. Might do the Stars at Darley this Sunday coming, perhaps bump into you there. Bob.

Thanks Vulcan. I did have a 50 but I sold it just before the Mickleover show. The brake tender is a new addition just because I found a couple of photo's on Google that were in BR blue. One was photographed in 1980 although it did look out of service! The second day of the show saw the introduction of a Sutton Loco Works Class 24. Great looking loco, but, a real pain in the rear to fit a DCC decoder!!

Diesel Dayz
So. After the Mickleover show the next port of call was the Silk Mill Museum, Derby last Saturday. This was arranged to coincide with the final running of the Silk Mills 0 gauge layout before it was to be dismantled and the building renovated. Just shy of a 1000 people attended what was a free to the public event. Here's a few photo's of SLACKS LANE STABLING POINT at the Silk Mill. Next outing Weston on Trent on 12th November 2016
