RMweb Gold checkrail Posted March 16, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 16, 2019 Some more pics of 5975 from yesterday's experiments. As my online mentors can probably guess I've been fiddling with the exposure compensation in one third increments. Once again I think the last (EV+1) is probably the best, but I quite like the first which suggests a misty morning. Slowly improving I hope, but still a fair bit of experimenting to do. KNP
Much better and now you are catching the beauty of your layout. I like the first one best as the loco motion is clearer. Looking much better and as you get to understand the camera better the sky will be the limit! If you are using windows don't forget the updated editing suite built into it. Then you can quickly do this.... Now it's misty.....the weather not my trawler!

KNP
Don't forget the power of cropping. It can change the entire feel of a picture Then to join in with the old picture effect using the website I was shown. 9

Funnily enough I was just cropping this one a couple of hours ago. Broome Hall on an up parcels train. I took 4 or 5 like this, using various EV settings from + 1/3 to +1 2/3. This one was +2/3 and seemed most like the colour tone I see when I look at the layout. Maybe I'm imagining it, but from this angle I do get a sense that the loco is hurrying along. RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted March 16, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2019 And some more of the up parcels. The thundery sky in the first and third pics is the effect of shadows on the curved plywood backscene, which is sprung in behind the loft purlins. This is added to in pic 1 by some unevenness in the lining paper which covers said plywood, where adjacent plywood sheets join. John C. 24
RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted March 16, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2019 Finally for today, while the camera is on charge, here are three cropped close-ups of Broome Hall. My own view is that the second one (EV +2/3) is the best. I do like the finish on this model but I guess it's Bachmann's take on 'GWR green' as on Rood Ashton Hall in its present day preserved condition. (Can see that the lower lamp needs its slot opening up a bit.) John C.

RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted March 22, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 22, 2019 Nice surprise to get positive feedback on Stoke Courtenay already. I hadn't realised that the BRM digital ed. came out earlier. Now looking forward to my paper copy and DVD during next the few days. Meanwhile this week I've been making further inroads into the hoard of unbuilt wagon kits. Here's an LMS cattle wagon from a Parkside Dundas kit (now Parkside by Peco). Found this well designed and enjoyable to put together, with nice metal wheels & bearings included so I didn't need to raid my small stash of Alan Gibsons. At the same time I made up two more GWR W5 cattle wagons from old Cooper Craft kits. For a bit of variety I finished one in the post 1937 lettering style. I've seen a photo of one like this without the S, M & L markings, which got me off the hook as I'd b*****ed up some of the ones on the Cooper Craft transfer sheet and there weren't any in my Modelmaster packs. Incidentally, why do transfer manufacturers insist on putting white lettering on pale blue backing paper? Why not dark blue or grey? I had serious eye strain after putting them on and found it very hard to cut round letters I could hardly see without cutting into them. (The worst I ever had was an HMRS Pressfix GWR wagon sheet, on which the white lettering was presented on a white background. Couldn't read a single letter. Swivel-eyed lunacy, and as much use to me as a chocolate fireguard. They went straight back for a refund.) Anyway, now I have just about enough vehicles to put together a short cattle train bound for the monthly cattle market at Earlsbridge! Photos to follow. Well, almost as I finished typing there was a large crash at the front and the post was delivered. In there was my copy of the BRM magazine. The article and Andy York's pictures do your layout great credit and I will have a more through read when we get back from the shopping. After a quick scan I was surprised to see a lovely mention and picture of Little Muddle for which I offer a heartfelt thank you for that thought. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted March 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2019 So, having amassed the huge total of 7 cattle wagons yesterday saw the inaugural run of a short cattle train heading for the monthly cattle market at Earlsbridge, containing wagons from all the Big Four (GWR predominating), thus fulfilling a minor ambition I've had since starting the layout. Here it emerges from the tunnel and heads through the station limits, hauled by 8750 class pannier 3603. Not a long train by any means, but given the inevitable compression in building a main line layout in a fairly confined space I think it looks reasonably credible. John Condon
RMweb Gold checkrail Posted March 23, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 23, 2019 And a few more as 3603 sets back its train into Stoke Courtenay yard before heading out along the branch towards Earslbridge, a movement necessitated by my rather 19th century track layout with no facing points on the main line. (Hmm. The postman's just knocked and handed over some packages, including new airbrush filters and what looks suspiciously like the new BRM. Time to put the kettle on methinks!)
