The Great Bear
I do like the bent wire replacement for the tension lock you have on your tank locos, much more discreet.

Yes. They're not quite invisible but do allow for the fitting of screw coupling and vac/steam pipes which, like lamps, I think are pretty essential. And they work very well with the 'Brian Kirby' method of magnetic uncoupling for tension locks. 1 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted January 22, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2020 Some small prairie action today as 5557 comes in off the branch, while sister engine 4574 lurks in the background shunting the yard. Meanwhile 5000 Launceston Castle hurries through on a down express. John C. 31
RMweb Premium Neal Ball Posted January 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 22, 2020 Amongst all the politics of "Bachmann have done WHAT" :-) it's nice to pop over to Stoke Courtney and Little Muddle, for some real world railways. Thanks John @checkrail and Kevin @KNP The GWR in the 1930's at their finest. 1 6 1
Bulwell Hall
I do like the weathering on Launceston Castle. Very natural for an engine in normal service although a long way from her days on the Cheltenham Flyer! Gerry 1 3
RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted January 22, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2020 4574 stayed out of the way while 5557 ran round its train, but continues shunting as the branch passenger heads back to Earlsbridge. Looks like one of today's passengers is a horse. Meanwhile 2819 trundles through with empty PO coal wagons. (One of these days they might run the other way full of coal, if I ever get round to making 20 more removable coal loads!) John C.

Helps to hide the mess I made trying to get the 'Great (twin shields) Western' insignia off Tintasgel Castle's tender to replace with the shirtbutton totem.

RMweb Gold Popular Post checkrail Posted January 22, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 22, 2020 Of course, all this railway running, picture taking and photo processing is displacement activity to distract me from this C31 toplight third: Though it looks at a pretty advanced stage there's still loads to do - door furniture, side & end grab rails, roof vents, water tanks and rainstrips, lamp brackets etc. It's taking forever but I'm learning a lot - mostly through my errors! Anyway, while I wait for the last (but not the first) restorative paint touch-up to dry here's another shot of 5557. Rather like this one - and you can see my new working Dapol bracket signal in the background signalling the departure. John C. 26

RMweb Gold checkrail Posted January 23, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2020 Recent photos have been taken with the exposure value set at +1/3 EV. I wondered if the pics were a bit pale, so tried one with EV set at normal level of 1. Which of these two is better? PS. Only noticed after posting that one of the lamps has fallen off the Grange and seems to be balanced between the rh buffer and the vac pipe. Must now go upstairs and hunt round the track for it. Hope I don't find it on the loft floor by treading on it! John C.

outatime
Clearly the second one. Look at the sky on the background, in the first one it looks white, in the second light blue as it should. 1 4
AlfaZagato
I only just noticed the black hardware on the horsebox, though you've probably posted about it before. Now I need to go revisit my old N gauge Lima model.

What was wrong though were the brown ends, as someone kindly pointed out, so they had a repaint in matt black. Don't know what colour Lima painted the ends of their N gauge version. I don't think they were painted. All the ones I've seen were the colour of the plastic they were moulded in.
