The Longmoor Military Railway (initially know as the Woolmer Instructional Railway) was built near Liss in Hampshire, to train soldiers in the construction and operation of railways. The line was built as a narrow gauge line by the Royal Engineers, around 1903, being relaid to standard gauge between 1905 & 1907. The railway was used until 1969 when, after an unsuccessful preservation attempt, the line was closed, and dismantled. Over the years many different types of locomotives and stock have been used on the line, including 20T Brake Vans.

Invicta Model Rail has commissioned Bachmann Europe PLC to produce an LMR 20T Brake Van WD49027, in War Dept green, which we are now accepting advance orders on. Delivery is expected late in 2016.

Do you have a date for when it was repainted blue at Longmoor? Also, how many of these were built for the military?

Thanks,

Martin

There were two of these vans at Longmoor, WD 49027 and WD 49028, and they were bought from Standard Railway Wagon in 1959.

I understand that they were first painted blue in 1968.

Having seen a sample at the shop, this is a very nice model and one was promptly ordered.

Tony
