On the 'ramp' at Bander Abbas, Iran.

We'd just brought in 1000 pedigree goats from Barcelona. I'm told the goats are cost €600 each and are for breeding and milk. It was the first international cargo flight into Bander for 20years.

1000 goats imported into the ME ? That's trafficking of sex workers I think

Here are a bunch of photos I took at the then recently renamed Lester B. Pearson International Airport (Toronto) in 1984. A lot of long-gone airlines, liveries, and aircraft.

Air Canada (727) and CPAir (DC-10) tails with Nordair and United 737s.

Some of you may remember this event, arriving in Manchester, Aug 5th 2014. It was me in the 330.

was a strange sight seeing the eurofighter heading towards the jet then circling it. was working in marple and had a great view of the event.

I wanted to go there when we were in Iceland this year but persuading SWMBO to walk the 4km to it from the road turned out to be a non-starter :(

  • 3 months later...

One of my favourite aircraft, shot at the Toronto CNE airshow sometime in the '80s. These are scanned from prints (sometime I have to get around to scanning the negatives). Unfortunately the close passes were shot up-sun, and the circuit was wide enough that the aircraft was well out over the lake so the third photo had to be blown up excessively, but it does show the planform.

I'm not sure that the engine is from a Walrus, looks like a Derwent gas turbine, or similar. Walrus had a Pegasus piston radial but the painting on the bottom right is definitely a Walrus. I know, there's always a smartarse!

The Phantom from the earlier bunch of pictures is a fabulous thing.

Having looked at examples of both online, I am sure you are right, so I have changed the caption. I am always happy to make corrections. I hope that it was my mistake. I don't have the original photos which might or might not have included a close-up of the label. I may have just looked at the photos and assumed because of the proximity of the Walrus picture that it was from that plane.

Someone who lives near us was a Lightning pilot and he says that they were fantastic planes to fly. He used to shadow Russian planes flying near UK airspace. My only experience of service flying was as a passenger in a De Havilland Dominie, when I was in the naval section of the school cadet force. My greasy naval breakfast ended up in the paper bag as we banked steeply over a go-cart track on the Isle of Wight!

And now for something different

The B17 from Art Lacey's Bomber Gas Station on McLoughlin Boulevard (Hwy 99E)  in Milwaukie was removed in 2014.

The good news is that it is to be restored.

Meanwhile not far from Highway 99W on the west side of town in McMinnville we have this. Evergreen have a B17 too.

This photo was on Flickr, where information about the plane's history was given to me. I then transferred my photos to ipernity and lost the information as the 'comments' didn't travel with it. Someone else then filled in the gaps. As ipernity has an uncertain future I have remembered to bring the info. with the photo. this time.

"This aircraft (ex RNZAF) was converted to Sandringham specs by Ansett Flying Boat Services and used on the Lord Howe Island run until 1974. It was sold to Antilles Airboats and, I understand, is now in the Museum of Flight in Florida."

What you see here will have been in the Sandringham configuration. If there is any further news of its whereabouts and condition, please share it.

Another picture from work , when i worked in LHR fleet support unit , we had just finished dropping this RB211 off this 767 , it took 6 of us approx 4 hours ,without doubt the easiest large engine drop I have ever carried out. #2 on the Tristar or DC10 was a vile job !

Another one from my time at LHR fleet support unit, this was an a320 engine drop , the IAE V2500 is a particularly awkward engine to drop in my opinion especially when the accessories have to be transferred to the new engine , the IDG is a real pain , I much prefer the cfm56 engined aircraft.

Not particularly exciting but may be of interest.
