Hi Jaz,

Thank you. For some unfathomable reason my hand seems to be getting better all by it's self . After I had a steroid injection for the trigger finger all the pain stopped and now I can actually lift the affected finger while laying my hand flat on the table.

The only thing holding me back with layout construction is the rather cold weather, so I'm going to crack on and finish as many of those unfinished models with all this spare time. I've not any work to speak of lined up, only on our house. It always gets quiet in my line of work at this time of year.

I'll PM you a pic of Mrs. S. for reference :girldevil:(she mightn't be too happy if I put one up on here).

I use to ride Kawasaki Z 750s too you know. Anyhow if you model me on a scooter wearing leather that would be more accurate! Those old fashioned chrome goggles too.

This picture has to be 25 years ago but only god knows where.

Regards and seasons greetings Mr. Sasquatch.

That's so cool !!!!!!!!

and Kal had the Kawasaki Z 1100 R....we never sourced the Top Gun Jacket,

and some slashed the tyres a couple of times which cost so much Kal traded the bike...luckily for the person Kal could not catch the culprit!!!!!

 Thanks Andy.

Seasons greetings to Dee and yourself.

we used to have a lot of fun on the scooters traveling all over the UK and Europe. We even had side cars on them at one point. My mate would turn his tick over up and engage the steering lock leaving it running around in circles with a crate of beer on the side car seat. When all the cans had been drunk (every one helping themselves as it trundled past) we'ed stall it and go down the pub!

Thanks. Z1100 R:O   Too fast for me. The 750 was scary enough I sold because we always rode scooters to their limits. That's a bit too dangerous on motorbikes.

Your work is coming on so wonderfully well, a tribute to your determination.

Happy Christmas to both of you, and a Healthy, Prosperous New Year.

Tony.

 Hi Tony.

Great to hear from you. A merry Christmas to you both and wishing you well in the new year.

Having lurked for the best part of twelve months, I've very much enjoyed - and learned from - all your projects, particularly the goods vehicles and architectural items. 'Seems like a good time of year to burst the posting bubble, and you were top of my list!

Wishing You and Yours a Happy Christmas and a Fruitful New Year,

Hal.

Thanks chaps!

Kind of miss the Xmas pub crawl in Brighton at this time of year Chris.

Wishing you a very merry Christmas and happy New Year.

I'm thinking of doing a huge post of pictures of the layout as a sort of recap of the slow progress and just because everyone else must be like me in that they love looking at pictures of model railways.

If all goes to plan I'm hoping to get back to running on all 16 cylinders sometime next year then I can knuckle down and make some progress with all these projects I've taken on.

At least I finished the bathroom remodel in time for all the Christmas guests! The Queensbury station masters house is also done!

Please do the huge post when time is available. I'll thoroughly enjoy it and I'm sure everyone else will, too.

I particularly like the dour rendering of the Station Master's House. Spot on with the original.

Hal.

Hi Shaun,

I hope you had a great Christmas!

Fantastic pictures as always. Made me go back to my stored link to where you first showed the geodetic framework.

But I have a question... What have you used to form the shell over the formers under the plaster? Chicken wire, aluminium mesh, woven card, magic? Whatever it is it works really well. I think I'll use the geodetic approach for NE with it's embankment to the right and river along the back. I'll still have a lot of flat board, but I think the principle will work better than the traditional method I've used for DE... if my carpentry is up to it!

Kind regards, Neil

Hi Neil,

A merry Christmas to you mate.

We ate too much! Last nights Turkey dinner was a fantastic feast with no less than 9 dishes to accompany the bird and washed down with some of the best wine I've tasted in ages!

Anyhow, we used 15/32" plywood for the framework, 1/4" MDF for the track bed etc., and 3" foam board for the scenic relief held with hot glue and topped with plaster bandage. I will be using kitchen towel in future!

The ribs are placed 9" apart to allow for 3 thicknesses of foam board. I used panel saws, rasps and hacksaw blades to shape the foam and an electric jigsaw to cut the foam panels.

Here's a couple of pictures which judging by their size haven't been posted before.

Thanks Shaun, that's exactly the information I was looking for! I'll look at how I do that on NE... so more planning, this time on elevations rather than plan views... back to the OS 1:2500 for the heights and contours!

Kind regards, Neil

Hi Neil,

The trick is to make a full scale plan as can be seen in the 3rd image above this gives a clear picture of the relationship between the point work and the ribs, the spaces for the foam board, elevated track support etc, etc. It'll also show if the layout will end up looking too crowded!

Next installment.
This year I converted our barn into a cabinet shop freeing up the garage for the Grim Up North dream layout.
I built a 5' extension board for Goathland but still need to move the side door to the garage which will enable me to add it to the layout.
