Popular Post cornish trains jez
Good morning, There are lots of brilliant "photos of..." threads on here so thought I would start one on AC electrics which hasn't been covered yet...I think! Feel free to add photos from the electric blue days to today. Here is a couple from my collection to kick things off. Both taken in the late 80's near Kenton, first up, 87010 "King Arthur" in Intercity livery on a sleeper, possibly ECS working. Intercity liveried 86245 "Dudley Castle" on an up TPO/parcels. Best regards, Jeremy

davefreight
86005 120584.jpg 86005 departs Hardendale Quarry with a train of empty tanks for Runcorn, 12 May 1984. Not sure what the tanks would have conveyed, maybe CO2? Lovely shot. The tanks conveyed butane to the quarry where it was used to fire the lime kilns. This came from Shell's Stanlow refinery which is where the discharged (empty) tanks would have been returning to. Rivercider
My earliest photo of a class 87 was taken on an instamatic camera in 1975 but does show something of a contrast of motive power. At Allerton 87031 is stabled next to a withdrawn class 02 loco still in green livery, no. 02004, 22/6/75 cheers 14

Dan Griffin
AC electrics have always fascinated me, living near the ecml. I remember seeing the GNER blue 89 and 90 racing through Peterborough.

RMweb Gold tractionman Posted August 13, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 13, 2016 Lovely photos of the good old days, thanks for posting - always nice to see photos of Rugby in the '70s / '80s, takes me back... I was in the neighbourhood again last weekend and treated myself to some time lineside at Cathiron and spotted these beauties: These above two pictures were taken on Fri Aug 5th, around 5pm. The last shot is of course E3137 / 86045 / 86259, taken as it was heading north on Sat 6th Aug with the Cumbrian Mountain Express, Euston-Carlisle. all the best, Keith

RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted August 13, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) Great to have a thread of proper locos at last Andi E3200 at Euston circa 1968. Note BR arrows but still has white cab roof. Could be later because it looks like aircon stock in the background. Wot like this one, taken with my mum's Brownie 127 camera. roythebus
One of the biggest problems on the 81-86 locos was the ride quality. In the cab sitting still was almost impossible. what was worse was that it was almost impossible to have a cup of tea. You dare not fill the cup more than half way or it would spill everywhere. Quite how these locos stayed on the road at 100 mph is still a mystery to me, having spent a while working on them in 1974-76!

Popular Post Mike at C&M
Some of my favourite class . My RMWeb identity leaves Carlisle on a frosty morning Rush hour at Carlisle. 87.023 was being removed from a Glasgow - Carlisle as a failure. Note the different pantographs on the 87s. The first incarnation of Executive livery on 87.012 "Couer de Lion" as it leaves Preston. Weathering department, please! "Howard of Effingham" waits to head north out of Birmingham New Street. 86.411 "Airey Neave" will also head north eventually. East meets West. A Deltic on 1S15, 1553 Carlisle to Edinburgh Waverley meets "Highland Chieftain" on a Glasgow - Euston. When the '87' comes out from whichever manufacturer it might be, you now know what colours to do the pipework in for your ex-works loco. "Royal Sovereign" at Carlisle. Note the position of the cabside numbers, which are slightly lower than usual. Edited August 14, 2016 by 87029
RMweb Premium Blobrick Posted August 14, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 14, 2016 I started my railway career on the Footplate at Euston in 1979, so these shots take me back to the time when we had stock movements around stations, and light engines running to and from depots, and station pilots! Ah great days!. Please keep these smashing photos coming! Bob C
MGR Hooper!
I'm really sorry to hijack the thread...These are beautiful photos which are not easy to come by on Google. But I wanted to know when exactly did "Railfreight" or "Railfreight Distribution" exist? I think 1987 it was conceived, but when did RfD officially end and for how long after that did the Class 86's and Class 90's carry the RfD livery?
Peter Kazmierczak
Here's one for Bob C in particular - Euston July 1979. 87033 and 86205 wait to leave with northbound expresses.
Peter Kazmierczak
Crewe - August 1968. Why I was here taking pictures of electrics rather than steam locos slightly further north, I've no idea..... E3152 arrives with a Western Region-bound express.

Peter Kazmierczak
Re-post #14 from Clive. The coach isn't one of the a/c batches - it's just the way the Brute trolley has been parked that makes it look a bit like that. i'd say the coach was either a Mk2 or (most probably) a Mk2a.
