There seems to be a lack of class 91 on this thread!

Line up of class 91s at Kings Cross. From the front, 91011, 91027, 91003 and a final unidentified example. Pity about the lamp really...

A really excellent thread - thanks to everyone who have uploaded photos.

AC traction was always a favourite for me - I remember tearing up and down the WCML, always good lively runs especially with Mk1's in the early 70's!

Here are some of my photos, scanned from prints, alas all from the early 90's as I didn't even own a camera when the locos were blue!

Apologies for the lack of dates etc - very poor archiving on my part.

More to follow........

Like the brush-up in no. 003.

Any idea what was going on with no. 005 - an 87, 2xBG and one Mk2?

 87101 on a test train?

I would have thought that 87101 was well past testing by the time that photo was taken.

Extract from http://www.aclocogroup.co.uk/history87.php

The locos were built by BREL Crewe between 1972 and 1974 with the first, 87001, entering traffic in June 1973 allocated to Willesden Depot in London. The fleet entered service gradually until the last 'standard' machine, 87035, was delivered in October 1974. The final locomotive, originally to be numbered 87036, but entering traffic as 87101, was built as a test bed for new electronic power control equipment, using thyristor technology to replace the tap-changer transformer and rectifiers. This loco appeared in 1975 and spent many months on test before entering regular use during 1976.

Pick any one from:

Stock balancing move/ vehicles being tripped to or from works attention.

Driver training.

Very short ad-hoc passenger working!

I don't think it is a revenue earning Parcels service as although there were some short formations used, they were more likely to have been a BG+GUV and not in Intercity.

Another wayward possibility is it is a Central Door locking demonstrator coach used for staff training at stations being moved, but it doesn't appear to have CDL lights.

Another batch of scanned prints from my archives.

The 90's with the empty HEA's in tow were taken at Leigh-on-Sea on the LT&S when they were used on Saturday mornings for driver training.  It was unusual to see any locomotives on this secion of the line.  Note the paint peeling off the front of the Intercity Mainline liveried one! That would be a modelling challenge!

Again, apologies for lack of more specific details and dates due to my lack of proper recording which I now regret.

It's Sunday and the power is off again. Line up of ECS at Longsight waiting for the juice to come back on the main line. i used to take this for granted. Go to Longsight mid afternoon Sunday and this line up was a common sight.
