Manchester 2009 - 3/4 October

Well Ive just got back in from a nostalgic last marking out of the halls for this years show. The bad point is that next year no comfy carpet to kneel down on whilst marking out. the good point is that theres no odd corners, nooks and crevaces!!

Its weird with an empty hall trying to visualise how it will look when full of layouts and trade - and as in all the best supermarket ploys we have swapped a few traders round just to make folk look harder wink.gif so its even more difficult to visualise.

If you are looking for a good show to visit this weekend then come along, its a classic. Full details here My link

It was a good show! Lot's bigger than I remember it being, but then it has been a while. Nice range of layouts (much better than some shows I've been to recently when the only the difference between layouts has been the colour and shape of the stock...), and a good selection of specialist traders. Despite having had my bank card swallowed by the cash dispenser this morning, I still managed to spend quite a bit!

Was nice to see New Hey in the flesh - it looks really good, and the goods shed really dominates the scene! I would have said hello, but every time I came near you seemed to start having problems (for which I can only apologise!).

beleive me we never had real problems today!

What might have seemed so on t'other side of the barrier surprises me as I only have had one real problem all saturday caused by a closed frog joint - it took me 5 mins to sort out, other than that it was stock maintenance - adjusting couplings, cleaning wheels etc. Some of the comments how things were constantly moving have really enthused me today - that was the purpose of the layout, to enetertain.

Perhaps if you had engaged in conversation we could explain whatever was going on at the time !

I am so chuffed that the layout is starting to realise its potential

Just had to say I thoroughly enjoyed the show - my first visit to Manchester, the show and the city.

A really good selection of layouts to drool over and trade support to extract the cash from my wallet.

Couldn't find fault. Well done to the organising team

I was bowled over with Crumley & Little Wickhill - when will it come south so i can see it again?

Have to say, I wouldn't mind a return trip to the city for social purposes, it seemed such a lovely little town..................plus I didn't get the chance to do any of the major public houses!!!

A lot better than the previous year was able to move about freely, really enjoyed the afternoon (saturday).

What can be said about New Hey that hasn't been said already. Tried to have a word, spoke to a member of the team but you were at the other end looking puzzled at the fiddle yard (Shaw end) waited about 5 min but family were getting restless so had to move on.

Speak to you when next catch up with the layout, bit like a specific loco really.

Even though your DC you could still send round a sound equiped loco as the basic sound still works (but at a lower speed). just a thought.

No problem John - Dont be afraid of butting in - I was only probably wheel / tack cleaning anyway - I could never get anywhere near the controllers to play!!

Next outings for New Hey is York next Easter, followed by Expo EM at Bracknel (New Hey goes sarf to educate in the gentle ways of the L and Y), Expo EM north at Slaithwaite (the formal invite arrived today) and then Halifax 2 weeks after that.
