MarcD
Hi I'm just finishing off the halt area of my layout that changes name and location depending on the stock and the buildings and I have come across a snag. What colour should I paint a grounded coach that is being used as a station building on a rural halt? The layout is LSWR/S&DJR "Scratchy Bottom" circa 1914, Furness "Lowick" circa 1914-23, NER "Lowick" circa 1900-23 and Cambrian "Crafu Gwaelod" circa 1900-23. Would the grounded coach body remain in its last running livery? Would it be repainted in the building livery of the respective company? Or Would it be repainted with tar or some other preservative? Marc Could be any of those, If you don't want to make four and swap them around as required, black would be your best bet. John
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted September 12, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 12, 2016 I have the grounded coach on my layout in it's last running livery. From discussion on my Oak Hill thread it seems that would have been what the LBSCR did but I cannot speak for other companies. Gary
Quarryscapes
Repainted in station colours would be the logical answer - it's it's got to the point where it can't be used in traffic any more it's last traffic livery is unlikely to be in very good shape. pete_mcfarlane
The SR painting guide specifies different colours depending on whether the body is within a station or not. The same may be true for other companies.
MarcD
That would probably be a LSWR order rewritten. does it say green and cream? if it does you can guess it would have said brown and stone before 1923. Marc

Marc The SR paint schedule is here: http://www.stationcolours.info/index.php?p=1_7_SR-SCHEDULE Grounded bodies are towards the bottom - green in stations and grey elsewhere.
