gismorail Posted April 30, 2019 Author Share Posted April 30, 2019 Well I'm totally brain dead after tonight's session .... managed to fit the two starter signals ok which on the whole went together well but I've tried myself into knots trying to sort out the adjustments via the Megga Control System which to be honest is down to my forgetful memory as its been months since I have had to get all technical after all the scenery work. I have though nearly completed the station bracket signal which has resulted more burn't finger tips but it has been a good challenge, there is still a bit of touching up to do in one or two areas plus the servo mount is still to be fitted but I'll have to turn the base board to do that part. So not a bad days work on the whole need to just refresh my memory about adjusting the servo's to get the signals working as well as wiring in the lamp lights . 7 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Trevor Hi Trevor it runs on 8.5 volts some I'm using my smoothed variable power source that I use for the Meggapoints Controller set at the required power outlet. Thanks George it's amazing what can be achieved if one puts one's mind to things, even though my finger tips might not totally agree with that statement. Still got the baseboards on end as I'm struggling to get the main line starter by the signal box to work correctly but hey ho I will get it right. I'm also installing lighting circuits for the buildings / platform lamps / and signal lamps and yard lamp so although there's not much to show at present there is a lot of activity going on beneath the ground .......know as working under cover me thinks 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

gismorail Posted May 16, 2019 Author Share Posted May 16, 2019 Evening everyone ...yes there is indeed life in the Kingdom of Chumley End as I have been a very busy bee...... but like a lot of jobs in our hobby sometimes there's not a lot the physically see for all the effort I think the following picture more or less sums up what I have been doing in the best possible way unfortunately I did not have as many staff to get the job done as quickly as the CLC signalling department at Manchester Central signal box. Once I had completed the building and painting of the signals and then fitted them with the Dingo servo mounts, that I mentioned in a previous post, I was so impressed with the ease that they operated that I ordered enough to re-do all the point work. I have found that due to the fact that via the dingo servo mount the movement of the servo becomes ' linear' (I think I have spell that correctly) rather than curved the whole operation becomes more accurate and takes a lot of stress out of the servo . Well worth all the extra work in my opinion. A couple of pictures of the signals in position The two starter signals with concrete posts in a classic CLC style The Down starter at the far end of the station is an LMS design as was installed at a later date to the up starters Well the next job is to complete the fiddle yard cassettes and generally add the final detailing throughout the layout. Thanks Andy for your kind comments and no I won't be selling it before November .....maybe December . Have been checking out what length of trains and how to shunt them around the layout today ....even though I say it my self it's dam good fun and the general track plan throws up some interesting puzzles which is something that Ian rice commented on in his write up to the track plan. gismorail Posted May 22, 2019 Author Share Posted May 22, 2019 (edited) Been operating (well playing) trains over the last couple of days for the first time and have started to make some fiddle-yard cassettes to the same specification as I demonstrated way back on this thread.( for those who want to check the methods out it's on page 1) It's a strange thing that even though I have spent hundreds of hours building Chumley End it's only till one operates trains that you really start to get to know the 'beast that you have created. Now that's not to say that the layout is a disappointment far from it to be honest but until you start to shunt wagons into sidings and run round part made up trains that you start to understand the complex nature involved in this art form. Anyway enough of my ramblings about the theory of layout operation but I'm sure that many who follow this thread understand my thoughts on the subject. I have taken a few photographs of the first couple of trains that have been operating through Chumley End Class 25 043 is ready to depart with an up train back to Mouldsworth Jnc where it will join the main CLC line back to Chester Northgate. I have just fitted a 'Leggomanbiffo' sound chip into this loco so it was on a trail run. D 2383 shunts the main goods yard having just placed some coal wagons over the coal drops for Alan Morris the coal merchant to bag up for delivery. A have a couple of photographs of D2383 working on Conahs Quay docks which was a branch off the Wrexham to Bidston line. The loco is fitted with a Paul Chetter sound project from Diggitrains I will post some more pictures as operations increase at Chumley End. There will be steam indeed Trevor in the mid fifties it will be C13 N5 and a J10 if I can get my one of my kit built locos to run reliably plus a D11 on special occasions. Moving forward in time a couple of BR Standard locomotives will make an appearance followed some Green Diesals and a DMU at the end of the lines lifetime.
