carlw
Hi all, I have just finished painting and glueing together of the first of the two YSA cable wagons on my workbench. I think they will look great when i have 4 of them to run together. Just transfers and Matt varnish to complete it. Cheers Carl
carlw
Hi all, Last weekend I visited Stafford Exhibition which was a great show with pleanty of good layouts to see. While I was there the YSA wagon got a bit of a play on Mayfield. I also did a bit of shopping done, I got some more Parkside kits to build, lots of plasticard and microstrip. Stock wise I purchased 6 12’ Dapol wagons that the chassis will be robbed off to put under the 3D printed Dace wagons I’m in the process of painting. Bargain of the weekend was this shunter at only £65 George Ansell also bought me the first test cast of the Sea urchin that I scratch built. It has come out well although George did say that it’s a pig to get out of the mould. He is going to cast as many as he can from the master and if there is more than I require then i can sell them on. Cheers Carl
carlw
Hi all, I have lots of stock updates to add on here tonight. First up is a pair of 3D printed Dace wagons. These are a really nice model that will add some nice variety to the rake of Grampus wagons I have. The person responsible for the print has also agreed to produce some Crabs, thus filling a big void in wagons for me. I have used a Dapol 12’ chassis under the wagon which has also had its coupling replaced with a pair of Peco Elsie couplings which will help with the Auto coupling installed on the layout. Also as the Body was made from ex shock opens and the chassis is longer that body I have had to add 2 small sections of plasticard on each end. Next up is a long time resident of my workbench, this Halibut is also a 3D print. I have finished off the paint work, which just leaves the transfers to do. The bogies are a pair of TPM Y25 that I have had lying in a spares box for ages. I have finished the second of the Satlink cable wagons, the second one has been modeled without and cable drums loaded. I just need to get another 2 wagons to complete my rake now. Thanks must go to Mike Cubberly for selling me the donors last year. The next two coaches can share a photo as they always ran in a pair. This support coach for this tunnel inspection train started off as a Farish Maunsell brake, Although it’s not quite the correct coach as the actual one is to the Hastings line gauge and this one is normal width. But in N gauge sometime we just have to make do. It has had both gangways removed and plated over with small sections of plasticard. I have also attacked some of the windows with filler. The actual tunnel inspection coach is very much a mix of Scratch built and cut and shut. It has only had the first coat of paint at the moment. The real coach is an ex SR 50’ elephant coach. Again as these aren’t available in N gauge I hacked up a PD Marsh SR PMV coach, each side having 4 cuts. The platform has been scratch using copious amounts of micro strip. At the moment it is sat on a spare MK1 chassis, although Mr Porter has Sold me the correct 50’ chassis. Thanks to Paul Wade for Photos and Drawings of this coach. The last photo of this updates shows I have a bit of a problem with Brake vans. Several of the vans have been seen on here in previous post. The newest ones are the 4 closest to the camera. 1st is a Farish BR van that has been repainted in Civils to represent KDB954672 which got used in Satlink trains. 2nd is a Farish Queen Mary, I have painted it in two tone grey as ADS56303, at the moment it still needs transfers and I need to sort out what I’m going to do about the Construction logo on each side. 3rd up is a Farish SR model which I have repainted to represent DS56454 which also got a lot of service in the Satlink trains. 4th is again a Farish SR Brake this time painted in a dirty brown livery, I haven’t decided on a number for this as there seems to have been loads looking like this in my time frame. That’s all for tonight. Cheers Carl

carlw
Will the two tone grey van's carry construction sector decals Carl? Yes, but I think I will need to get them custom made as they are smaller than normal loco ones
carlw
Hi all, This weekends fun has been mostly spent on wagon loads. First up loaded on a Bream is a track section used for access for tracked vehicles. Simple construction of some code 40 rail and bits of microstrip for the sleepers. Second has been a bit of a pain to work on as it is so delicate and fiddle. It’s a lifting beam used for moving and placing track panels. The beam itself is a microstrip 2mm I beam. For the lifting chains i have used the single strand wire out of a multi core wire. Cheers Carl

carlw
Thanks Richard, I’m really trying to make the wagons a bit more than straight off the shelf, even if they are just small and simple changes. Cheers Carl
Lyddrail
Carl, Well done, wagons are coming along very well. You have been busy. Cheers.
carlw
Hi all, Just a little something I have been scratch building over the last couple of weeks. It’s a generic model of a KGT road rail loader, I have used photos that look like they are different versions and modeled an amalgamation of them. Construction so far has been a mix of 10, 20, 40 thou plasticard with wheels robbed out of a old bus model. The model is at the point where I’m going to paint it before adding details like the hydraulic pipes. Cheers Carl

carlw
Hi all, I took HG out to TAD rail today, the layout seemed to go down really well and had quite a few people standing and watching me push wagons back and forth. Some real interest in the wagons was shown by a couple of people and I spent a while talking about how I have built things. I would like to thank Phil (aka Porkie) Milton Grove TMD and his son for operating for a while especially while I went for my lunch. Carl
porkie
It was good to see out in action. Both me and my boy enjoy a few hours talking trains and operating your layout.
carlw
Hi all, its been a little since i last posted on here. I have mainly been working on the wiring on ToNbridge West Yard. With Hither Green due out again to the Mountsorrel show 13-14th April I have been working on one or two bits of stock to debut. As a massive Queen fan and also a modeller I always wanted to make a model of the train Queen used when filming the video for the song Breakthru. Here is my attempt to recreate that train With thanks to Adam Warr from ElectraRail graphics who supplied all the vinyls for the paintwork on the bodies. Cheers Carl Here’s a link to the actual video for comparison. Edited March 8, 2019 by carlw 2

carlw
Hi all, I have been working on some new wagons ready for the Mountsorrel Show on the 13-14th April. These are Tope wagons that have been 3D resin printed by Paul Churchill sitting on Dapol 21t chassis. I have filled them with some mud from the Garden that I have Baked in the oven then smashed up fine with a hammer and finally sieved. The idea for the load came from a Photo of a rake of them in Tonbridge West Yard that Paul Wade supplied me. They just need Transfers doing if I get time between now and the show. Hi all, Finally got round to knocking this wagon up from a Chivers BR Tube and a Parkside Pipe. Its a simple cut and shut job, just needing to make sure you keep the cuts square. Photo of the wagon has it placed next to a Standard BR Tube. Cheers Carl
