Hi Graham

I am liking the Leader in that confined yard, not sure it would have made all the tight curves!
I'm guessing the signalman has ignored one of the standing instructions for the area. :O;)

Is it a kit or scratch built?

I was surprised at how well the model coped with the short radius points in the layout.
The wheelbase of each bogie was longer than a USA tank so it wound have struggled in some places around the docks, but would have been able to reach the ocean liner dock without any problem.

The model is based on a bag of parts from Golden Arrow Productions more details about the build here https://grahammuz.com/2012/05/04/talking-stock-8-is-it-a-diesel-is-it-steam-its-a-bulleid-leader/

The next wagon to roll is an ex LSWR / SR 8 plank open to Diagram 1316. Again a Cambrian Kit. That’s all for building at the moment now on to painting.890B885C-8F0D-4806-B591-FC976776B62B.jpeg.66e3027569c2a36684f257ae16a332fc.jpeg

In a third of a series of ‘Making Quay Changes’ posts on my blog Canute Road Quay is transported to either a different location or era or both. This time we remain in the Southampton Docks but in the 1920s heading into the 1930s.

Nice photo's Graham, I like the "Making Quay Changes" theme. Have you ever run the layout with Diesels? I could see an 03/04 or an 07 looking at home on there. do you think you could get away with some air braked stock? Maybe the quay could have just hung on until the late 70's?

Excellent news Graham... does this mean I don't have to build and detail all those BSL/Phoenix Ironclads I've been putting off then ;)

For a fee, no?

To assist me in one area of my new yet to be officially announced new job role... I have built a new semi permanent photography light box, mounted under Canute Road Quay, conveniently supported by the layouts trestles.
it is of course flat pack so can be removed and left at home once we are able to enjoy exhibitions safety again.
Thanks to a certain Andy Y for the CoB LED celling light units I’ve used top and bottom.

Jokes aside, Mental health is so very important and all to easily falls by the wayside when something like COVID poses a very real and dangerous threat to your physical health. Removing the stigma and opening up the discussion is just the first step. Reminding yourself (and others) that "it's OK to not be OK" is very valid in a world where everything feels so far away from OK.

Congratulations on your new position, I look forward to the announcement of the annoucnement!

Too hot for going outside today so managed to get the lettering finished on two of the diagram 1410 wagons that I have been building.

Just the two more of this type to letter then move on to the 2 Diagram 1426 ex SECR Vans and the 8 plank Diagram 1316 Ex LSWR open. All are painted waiting...

Taking a ‘brake’ from wagon lettering... something else is cooking... two Hornby diagram 1543 ex LSWR 20t Warner New brake vans have been repainted into the correct shade of brown (and oversized lettering for the Tare information), now drying the preheated oven (less than 50 deg) prior to lettering and varnishing.

By way of additional information to my previous post. This the same method as the wagon kits illustrated in previous posts.
I brush paint the base colour (over Halfords plastic primer on the kits).
I always dry following painting in a warmed oven (set to less than 50 deg and the door kept open, luckily I don’t need to ask anyone permission first!).
I then letter using HMRS Pressfix transfers.
Finally I apply Railmatch Satin Varnish from a rattle can to fix the lettering and even the finish.

It does improve them, I must admit it was a quick brush repaint as usually I would disassemble the model and dust with Halfords plastic primer first but cheated this time. They will be weathered next.

A very busy (and somewhat non prototypical) scene at Canute Road Quay as the recent wagons builds and repaints all pay a visit.

(Also an excuse the experiment with a new camera and photographic lighting kit...)
