Leamington & Warwick DCC Open Day

The club is arranging a DCC Open day sometime in May.

We will have a OO layout ( Duxbury) and an O gauge layout ( Kimble ) which will both be running under DCC control.

Duxbury will be using a Lenz system 90 with a variety of handheld controllers and Kimble uses a ZTC system.

Duxbury will use DCC to drive the trains in conjunction with our control panel to control points and signals.

Kimble uses DCC to control both the trains and the points plus they have sound chipped locos, so you will be able to hear and discuss DCC Sound.

Plus we hope to be able to demonstrate the use of a PC running DecoderPro, a free Java application written by the JMRI group that makes the setting up and tuning of loco decoders much easier.

So if you are interested in DCC then please feel free to come along and see how it works, ask us questions and hopefully encourage you to take that first step.

Keep an eye on the LWMRS web site for more details and a confirmed date.

The club is arranging a DCC Open day sometime in May.

The date for this event has now been confirmed as :

Teas and coffees will be available and we are wheelchair accessable.

If you would like to come along please visit the LWMRS web site and contact me, Martin Head, so I can send you details of how to find our clubhouse.

We will have to restrict numbers to about 40, so first come first served I am afraid.

Keep watching the LWMRS web site for updates.

A quick update :

The DCC Open day will feature the following layouts :

O gauge Kimble being controlled by a ZTC Command station. Point control is via Tortoise motors controlled via the Command Station. Running on Kimble will be several sound chipped steam locos.

OO gauge Duxbury being controlled by a Lenz 90 setup with several additional LH30 and LH90 handsets. There will also be a laptop connected to the layout via the LI-USB interface. The laptop will host JMRI DecoderPro to demonstrate decoder programming and we will demonstrate JMRI throttles. Point control of Duxbury is non DCC controlled via traditional Pen and Stud so a good example of partial DCC control. The laptop is also setup with RocRail, automation software which uses the LI-USB to interface to a DCC layout and provide layout automation - this can be discussed if anyone is interested.

OO gauge Toddington - our Junior layout controlled by the Hornby Elite.

N Gauge demo setup to show DCC is possible for this smaller scale.

LGB items to show DCC control for the Garden Railway enthuisiasts.

Plus members with lots of experience to share and hopefully answer your DCC questions.

So come along and see DCC working.
