Yes just scrape them off. Need to check the photos first..

Yes, do Baz.  You have a right hand drive example there, the standard LMS were left.  The beaded splashers were dropped very quickly after the grouping and right hand drive was only found on the earlier LMS-built batches.  Unless you do some work, you have a Midland built example and will need to see if the larger tender was attached to any of these at some point.

Job in hand and I can change the "hand  of the drive as I have done it before. the other 4F has already been made into a RH drive one.

Been busy with Black 5s...

The Model Loco ones are now numbered and the first stages of lining have been undertaken..

Check your transfers, standard size should fit. Try the ones you used on the BR 3MT.

So do I.. I will set too with changing its drive tomorrow. It isn't hard once you have done one you find its simple. It is easier if you can do it as you built it but..this one was already built up. Makes it a bit more interest!

Odd isn't it with the pipework right (I.e. correct), but the reversing rod on the wrong side?

Seems to be a bit of interest on the Fowler High sided tender.

Below is an extract from Model Railways, January 1974 with a table detailing known tender allocations to various Jubilees, Patriots and 4F's over the years

Here we have a lined green version which is intended for 45539

Hi Baz,

Hope you’re well.

Sorry to pollute your thread but please can I ask some advice re LMR coaches?

Should these have chalk panels and/or “Load x tons distributed” on them before I complete and weather them?  If so, what weight and where?

no news on the loads.. there must be some information somewhere.. I will continue the search..

The 4F with High sided tender is done.. changing it to left hand drive took..about 1 minute

and the next one is being a pain

Nucast V2. Whitemetal chassis had failed so.. add a comet motor and gearbox... the chassis is made to fit the Bachmann body.. that must be a strange shape as lots still to do to get this to work!

Saskatchewan is now fixed.. new motor and gearbox are working well, It had a strange short.. eventually I spotted a strand of wire touching where it shouldn't be. Respectable, Jubilee like speed now achieved.

been repairing some mineral wagons today

Two very old Ian Kirk 21T minerals

and two ex LNER 21T loco coal wagons

all 4 together

1793721431_421Tminerals.JPG.98afe2dde677c740802cda5eb9e595e6.JPG

These needed the couplings fitting (not all completed) new wheels as required. Brake gear has been reattached and buffer replaced where required.

And then

1419620143_Reworked24amdhalftonmineras.JPG.bc7e721079080d4f421a3f134279518e.JPG

Two Ian Kirk 24,5T minerals. The one  on the right will also need renumbering.  IT last saw use on Cwmafon.

The other was bought second hand and has a coal load and dirty fingers" weathering.

Droppers are to be fitted tomorrow,

Other wagon repairs were also completed (mainly the fitting of new replacement buffers)

Next up.... new loco kit builds and that V2>

Interesting. I always finish the couplings - loops, droppers and all - before fitting them.

Droppers can be added anytime. Thes couplings were "pre used" so I want to make sure the latch works first. I have fitted some magnets to the storage yard on Barnbow so I can try the couplings. New loops and droppers will be made up off wagon, then added. My soldering station iron has a great set of tips so, using the smallest one i can pre solder the loop before fitting then a quick touch with the irin et voila!

Some of the droppers have fallen off since fitting..two were "low" magnetic types anyway (tried to retrieve them using a magnet!c

When you've soldered up anything on a coupler wash it with MEK or something similar afterwards, otherwise the pivots and latch can get sticky. I'm getting a bit suspicious of blackened latches as well, a lot of them seem to get sticky, clean brass ones less so.

I blacken the whole brass fret as you know Mike. As you say, they need a through clean after assembly. I generally just use hot water, after which they work fine, but MEK sounds a good idea. I'll try that on the next batch. The usual reason I find for sticky latches is spreading the legs too much (ooer missus). As long as I don't squeeze the loops when fitting them they always pivot freely too.

I have looked through various colour photos..Looks like the Pd II BT didn't have loads on them ( being suburban stock are they expected to carry lots of goods in the Brake compartment?)

Still working on the other coach.. When I find out the details I am going to log them all!
