OBB 2067

Sometimes Christmas comes early, so it happened last week as I got from one of my club colleagues a model of a OBB 2067.

After some head scratching and finally a consultancy of the internet I could see that this is an early production of Klein Modellbahn, a company which made high quality models (not to compare with Kleinbahn - but actually Klein Modellbahn was owned by the brother of the Kleinbahn owner). As I am writing in the past you may know what happens, after a few years of manufacturing nice models this company closed down.

The model didn't run first as probably the oil in the axle bearings went sticky, but after a few trials and help by turning hand it came to live.

The model has been weathered by the pre-owner and some of the handrails were missing or broken. This is the nice side (no broken handrail)

As Donnersbachkogel is waiting for some material delivery I had time to do a little kitbashing. I replaced all handrails and carved away the painted handrails next to the doors and made brass ones instead. All handrails are made of 0.3mm brass wire.

Next step is the electric part. I cut already away the wiring and cut of a part of the diecast weight to make space for a decoder.

That's it for today - now I need to find a matching decoder...

Good to see your Klein Modellbahn OBB 2067.  A nice model back in the day. I bought one new in 1990. Here it is on a layout I built back then.

The model is long  gone. However, I now have the new Roco dcc sound fitted model. It's fitted with a 'stay alive' capacitor, great for slow shunting.

Nice pictures and nice layouts!

The stay alive capacitor probably comes also into the old Klein model. Will see how much space is left.

So far the whole thing is for me zero expenses and a lot of fun! (Well the brass wire is a few pence....)

Good to see more people modelling OBB!

A Zimo MX63 has been built in - the running performance could be improved (not to say rubbish...). I played with some stay alive capacitors on the open locomotive - with 1000uF if works acceptable. Problem is space, no idea where to put the capacitor without further cuts of the diecast frame. I found space for 470uF in the drivers cabin - of course not nice - there should be a driver not a capacitor... Also 460uF is less helpful as it is rather small...

If you look at the picture  - on the right hand window the capacitor is visible...

I am not too happy, will testdrive the loco on Friday evening at the club.

P.S.: Just ordered a few capacitors at Farnell. Have to see if I can hide them better....
