The model stands 55mm high and is not a working model

The gears do not rotate, and the gear teeth are scaled at twice scale size, otherwise it would be impossible to cut them

As always, great modelling. I hope that we can soon see some updates of your latest creations from Sri Lanka.

I've only just been drawn to this thread by the latest postings. Stunning work, and I'd hazard a guess that when you fancy a break, the view from the modelling room is pretty special too. Inspirational stuff.

The local Co-operative Bodegas is the reddish building lower left with the tanks holding the wine just behind. Benidorm is a few kilometres the other side of the Bernia mountain range (Thank goodness. That's the main reason we live this side of the mountains)

Wise choice. Benidorm's great, but it's even better from a distance. I plan to put at least 10km between myself and it. A mountain range inbetween is a definite bonus! Do keep up the good work, it's always a pleasure to view.

The layout is now taking shape on Kirala Island close to Colombo in Sri Lanka The Demodara Station section has been transported to the island, and is still under wraps. The section being built is the line between Demodara and Ella passing through Kithalella, with a number of tunnels, viaducts, and a bridge en route

Under construction for Ella are Two Goods Sheds, a Disabled Toilet Building, an abandoned toilet block and a Shrine

... and to complete the main models for this section the Kithalella Bridge is also under construction -

The bridge is built as three separate spans and four piers, to enable easier and safer shipping from Spain to Sri Lanka, and clipped together for the layout build

As always, Ron, great modelling. I always look forward to updates on this project, but mostly Manchester Central.

Have the rail, sleepers, timbers and the Templot prints for the next section of the approach trackwork on Manchester Central. Just need to finish the Signals for Sri Lanka then I will be back to the 2.6 metre workbench

Is there any forum to discuss SriLankan Railways? I'm planning on making a small diorama based on "Randles Hill" near Kandy. And some images of the area would be nice.

I'd also like to know if locos and DMUs like the M8, M10, S10, S11 and S12 are a common sight at Randles Hill as these are the locos and DMUs I have access to technical data to replicate in HO scale.

I would be interested in getting the S12 DMU done. Any idea of the price?

Sorry, absolutely no idea on the price. I plan of 3D printing masters and then having them resin cast. And I am currently working on the M8 and it's Indian cousin the WDM-2/3A. Scale will also greatly affect the price. In N gauge there's readymade mechanisms at a low cost and 3D prints are not expensive. However in HO scale mechanisms are harder to get and 3D prints are costly.

Hi All,

Thought of adding some images of the progress being made on this project in Sri Lanka. It's coming along quite well. The project is located at Kirala Island, a small island a short distance away from Colombo, on the Bolgoda Lake. Access to the island is by boat. The island also has a restaurant open daily from 10 am to midnight.

I am hoping to open the model for the public in about another 2 weeks. It's behind schedule but costs and manpower has been an issue.

Absolutely magnificent.

Spent some years in India, though never went to Sri Lanka. I’d love to visit!

Yes, people to populate the stations will add, as will the carts, and huge piles of luggage (and the clutter and litter), but these are details that can be added over years.

Great job!

Simon

Asian figures in HO/OO scales are just not available. Have scoured the usual manufacturers and sellers in Europe, China and Japan, and they do not make them. There are the odd Arab and Japanese figure, but no others. Most of the usual Western figures are not usable or convertible without a great deal of work. Dress, hats, briefcases and luggage are just not right for the vast majority of Sri Lankan rail passengers and the populace in general in the Highlands

Unfortunately, I am not a sculptor otherwise I could have few 3D printed

Have completed another eight lattice style semaphore signals

Now have a few Tuk Tuks (three wheel taxis) and Single decker buses on the worktable. These were drawn up on CAD and 3D printed as the scale detail was beyond even my skills for scratchbuilding. Will post pictures/details later in the finishing processes

Other items are looking to be produced which will add further local colour

Will Ella station be painted umber?!!

Mike.

 Hi, Mike

As of March this year, it was still a pink tinted cream with doors and window frames in umber

The car parking area has been increased and paved with brick paviours with white picket fencing to the station boundary
